I was asking about Saudi Arabia much more than the UAE, should have been more clear. And the Saudi market basically didn’t exist when WW1 came out, making comparison there impossible. Some googling suggests that Israel-Saudi relations aren't too bad at the moment though, so I’m not putting much weight on it.
Predictable side effect of causing theaters to compete with same day free streaming is that they will slash your ticket prices to attract footfalls and keep concession business going.
They say about 40 from China, so that would be 20-30 OS-C compared to 35M for Wonder Woman 1 at today’s rates. I think more likely we will see around 20-25 China and 15-20 OS-C for some 35-45
I think Charlie is bullish on the weekdays. Not sure if he’s accounted for Dec 23 being the emperor’s birthday holiday for TFA but not for DS (new emperor, new birthday).
Not that many reviews for the first half hour of a blockbuster superhero sequel. Harder to get as many critics seeing the movie in these conditions I suppose.
Seems like things are coming in maybe a half standard deviation or so better than I expected, but I’m a bit bummed because they appear to reinforce that I personally am unlikely to like it that much. Not really a fan of Donner Superman or that style of earnest optimistic campy stuff.

Which metro will announce closures tomorrow? Tune in to find out.
Lmao, it’ll probably pass 400 OS-C (unless global theatergoing has collapsed altogether).
I can’t believe we’re 12 years and 23 movies into the MCU and some people are still utterly clueless about how it works.
Yes, and 90M in 2017 was a worse result than 63M in 2013. So if both saw a similar decline in strength of performance, WW84 would be a bit below Croods 2.
It’s very small sample size unfortunately. Maybe a little? But from TENET and Croods 2 I don’t really see an “anti-HW” effect at the moment. Maybe in a couple months we’ll conclude that the pandemic sharply diverted interest away from HW and toward locals.
The latter could be a real factor, but Chinese box office isn’t functionally “during a pandemic” and hasn’t been for months. It’s pretty much business as normal, with lighter than usual completion.
Being summer and not a sequel helped the first ones legs, though they were indeed pretty solid even considering both factors.
If this opens at 25 ends at 50 it would be a bummer relative to my expectations from a month ago, but also not really outside the range of a normal sequel drop adjusted for HW market share.
Loki is decisively pulling ahead of the other trailers on YT likes, should be able to pass the stranger things season 4 teaser (at 545k) and become the 3rd most like YT trailer for a TV shows (after GOT S8 and WV). Under normal circumstances I think it would have beat WV and perhaps challenged GOT.
