In terms of MCU comps for this first set of weekdays I want to throw out anything pre-Avengers, since the fan dynamics were different and Discount Tuesday was less of a thing — that gets rid of 5 movies from phase 1. Also want to ignore the summer releases, which have very different weekdays — eliminates 4 in SMH, GotG, and the Ant-Mans. Want to ignore BP since it opened to President’s Day 4-day and Thor 2 since it opened on a Veteran’s Day 4-day. Finally I want to ignore any movie that had a top 5 OW, since they tend to have a first couple weekdays with spillover, as you can see in the very soft Tues bump — I was shocked to remember that this criteria eliminates Avengers, Iron Man 3 , Age of Ultron, Civil War, and IW! All that’s left is Winter Soldier, GotG2, Doctor Strange, and Thor Ragnarok, which had Monday drops of: Winter Soldier — -73.5% (+12% Tues when Discount was less pronounced) DS — -70.6% (+23.3%) GotG2 — -74.8% (+22.7%) Ragnarok — -74.3% (+31.2%) Just for kicks, the DOM total of it had the same Monday multiplier as those 4+BatB: Winter Soldier — 153.4+10.8*26.48=439 DS — 153.4+10.8*23.77=410 GotG2 — 153.4+10.8*24.67=420 Ragnarok — 153.4+10.8*23.32=405 BatB — 153.4+10.8*24.33=416 -

I mean, it’s a prequel. A lot of the reaction to Captain America 1 was also focused on how they would fit him into Avengers and further movies. Heck, a lot of the reaction to Black Panther was about how he’d fit into IW, and Doctor Strange, and Ragnarok, and GotG2. That’s how it goes with the TV series model of movies.

10.8 is good, basically a 72% drop, same as BatB. BatB’s +32% first Tuesday would give 14.25, but expecting it below that — and hopefully above the 13.2 that GotG2’s bump would give. -

It’s totally normal for a daily thread to get started from estimates, in the past it happened most weekdays the first week after a blockbuster opening when Rth dropped by. Charlie’s late in the day numbers are also pretty reliable, so I think a lot of daily threads the past 2-3 weeks or so have been started based on them. -

Those would have been bad, but were so early I’m not sure if estimate is even the right word. Must have been based mostly off presale data for Monday, which can tell you something and I don’t mind getting the super early guesses at all but they come with way larger confidence intervals than a number around 10 PM Eastern. -

10 to 11 is a good Monday. Not awe-inspiring, not concerning in any way. -

It appears that all Kevin needs for a Billie now is 80% RT, 150 OW, 400 DOM -
7.4 isn’t crazy frontloaded or anything considering the Endgame factor. I think the appetite was there for 165+ if it was widely received as being in the top third of MCU movies compared to the “good, but 40th-50th percentile” reactions I’ve seen a lot of. In the end this is a very strong debut for a new character, and it really went bonkers overseas. Can’t complain too much about being some % short of sky high hopes.
