On the subject of the Burton Batman films, I personally have never been very enthusiastic about them, or Burton’s filmography in general, but I’d be lying if I claimed that those movies don’t have a healthy following. I noticed that as far back as when the Nolan movies were still the hot new thing. With that said, Batman Returns definitely didn’t fare well with audiences back in the day. That was the whole reason the Schumacher movies went in a different direction. It was basically the BvS of its time. Between the Flash movie and Indy 5, I guess I’d say that I’m more enthusiastic about the latter at this point. I’m finding it increasingly difficult to get excited about anything from WBD, and that’s without factoring in that it’s part of a dead universe. On another note, it’s amusing to think that we now once again have Indiana Jones facing off against Michael Keaton’s Batman, just like in 1989.

Their “popularity” is largely due to the nostalgia and novelty of seeing these beloved animated classics in live action. Most of these remakes are inevitably forgotten about after they leave theaters. Practically no one even talks about something like the 2019 Lion King anymore. Most people will just go back to the originals.

I can’t believe how far Marvel has fallen in the public eye in just a couple of years. They were the definitive Hollywood juggernaut by the end of the 2010s, and outside of Eternals, that still seemed to be the case by the end of 2021. To be clear, I’m not saying Marvel can’t turn things around, but boy is the contrast ever striking.

Untitled Harry Potter Series | HBO Max

That just reinforces that a reboot wasn’t their initial hope. They absolutely would’ve kept the film continuity if all the necessary parties were on board with a sequel. -

They’re iconic enough that WBD felt the need to use the John Williams theme in yesterday’s announcement. -
We already went over this, but once again, the question isn’t whether or not the show is doomed to fail. It’s that the child actors who get involved in this might not realize what they’re getting themselves into. I’m not sure why this is such a difficult concept to grasp, but a thing can be successful and controversial at the same time.

I can’t speak for the person who posted the tweet, but again, I myself made no judgments about Rowling as a person. I shared the tweet because I felt it brought up a decent point about how the child actors who take part in the show may not realize what they’re getting into. I have no clue if the show will be successful or not. Maybe it’ll be the biggest hit in the history of the service. I don’t know. That’s irrelevant to whether or not the brand is controversial. Is Passion of the Christ not a controversial movie, just because it was extremely successful?

Did I claim the franchise isn’t still popular? I said it’s tainted because of the stigma associated with J.K. Rowling. Fox News and The Daily Wire are also popular. Does that mean they aren’t controversial? And what do you mean “performative?” I was making no personal judgments about Rowling or her views. I simply stated an objective fact. FYI, Rowling’s profits have actually plummeted recently.

They took part in a celebration of adaptations of the books, not the books themselves. Rowling didn’t even participate in the special. -

I obviously don’t know Radcliffe, Watson or Grint personally, but the notion that they’d be perfectly willing to betray their ideals as long as enough money is offered is a rather cynical thought.
