  1. Hmmm. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is one of only six movies ever to gross over a billion dollars overseas; Is that because "the rest of the world doesn't care much about [Star Wars]"?
  2. He really thinks that post was some sort of post-meta, post-modern, post-hipster-ish-meets-high-art metaphor pseudo-joke-slash-auteuresque allegory. It's the mother! of Box Office Theory posts, y'all!!
  3. Patty Jenkins, Dee Rees, Greta Gerwig, Kathryn Bigelow, Angela Robinson... whether any of them end up nominated, I think it's fantastic that so many women are even in the conversation (anyone's conversation) for any given year's potential for directing accolades.
  4. In my opinion, the BATB remake is the textbook definition of "utterly forgettable movie."
  5. Oh, please, stop the whining. Nobody has said that GOTGV.2's run was boring or that it was not a success. It was a monumental success...that everyone expected. All the films that people mention as noteworthy box office stories of 2017 have something special in their overall narrative that makes them noteworthy. GOTGV2's huge commercial success and solid critical reception was business as usual for the MCU. When Avengers 3 makes a billion dollars and gets 85-90 % Fresh on RT, the same thing will happen: most people will go, "Ok. Good. Next."
  6. I think that Girls Trip and Baby Driver were also box office stories worthy of mentioning in 2017. The only reason I don't think GOTGV2 is that noteworthy is because it did absolutely what everyone expected a well-reviewed, well-marketed sequel to a beloved MCU film to do.
  7. Red Sparrow, a film that seems to be more in JLaw's wheelhouse, will truly be a test and/or "evidence" of her drawing power; mother! will just be a blemish in her resume, but I doubt it will cause casting agents to suddenly stop sending her scripts.
  8. To be fair, none of those films showed a BLEEP being BLEEPED by a wild BLEEP and then BLEEP. The media narrative around mother!' s floppage will be making it seem lke Jlaw's stardom is diminished, but we all know that it would have flopped no matter who starred in it.
  9. The box office stories of the year (in no particular order): It, BATB, Split, Get Out, Wonder Woman, 47 Meters Down, Annabelle Creation, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Despicable Me 3 any others I missed?
  10. Yeah, well...I guess at some point in the future, eventually somewhere along the road it will make money. Doesn't change the fact that it's flopping. Her career will be fine, though. I still believe that Red Sparrow will be the big commercial hit that will help audiences (and the industry) "forgive" Lawrence for mother!
  11. Hercules and The Hunchback of Notre Dame may not have been as big as TLM, BATB, TLK, and Aladdin , but I seriously feel that Disney could have huge live-action blockbusters made from those.
  12. LOL Jlaw is trying to distance herself from the film. Ok, I am just kidding...or am I? It continues its shockingly awesome run. Damn...I'd love if It made 400 million; it would make my horror-movie-loving heart so happy! Remember when many of us thought that 60 million would be an amazing OW for It ?? It would have, of course, but now 60 million could possibly be its second weekend!!
  13. If they really paid Jlaw 15 million dollars for this type of film, they are absolutely clueless.
  14. Thank you! I was also completely confused by his conflating of talent with star power...
  15. Huh? I don't think you understand what the term "star power" means. If Brad Pitt is awful in a film that gets an A + Cinemascore, would that mean he has zero starpower? Also, Jlaw was ok in mother! , but to be honest, I don't think anyone in the cast, not even Pfeiffer, is going to be remembered come Oscar nods time.
  16. Wow...Jlaw, Margot, and Brad in a Tarantino film about the Manson/Tate murders? I am already sold.
  17. Is she really doing the Tarantino Manson film? Would she be playing Sharon Tate?
