  1. Any early reports on China numbers?
  2. IMHO:Actually Whiplash aka Vanko in IM2 is a rather classic super villain that you would expect from a comic book. Vanko is Stark's mirror opposite and creative/brainy counterpart (Stane is just a board-room back-stabber). Like Tony, He too was forced to use his knowledge for selfish purpose. In a way, Vanko & Stark kinda stand for the writers, the creative people in H'wood, how sometimes they too get exploited (underpaid, manipulated to write junks) by the suits. The makers of IM2 chose instead to fill IM2 with very boring myth-arc fillers for TA. You should take out the whole Black Widow-Nick Fury stuff, and instead they should flesh out the conflict between Stark & Vanko, focus on their game of one-up-manship. IM3, while the most entertaining of the three for the GA (a lot of comic moments), feels light on the action and super-heroics. It is great to see Tony go MacGyver, but a Marvel movie should focus on the superhero's "super heroic" capability.
  3. It may do PROMETHEUS number in China. DOM is sputtering to a dead halt. It won't hit $300 million WW even with Japan. I really like this movie, too bad.
  4. Why compares OBLIVION to GIJ2? Two different movies, genres, demographics even
  5. I remember TA did $447 million OS in the 2nd weekend. IM3 clearly outgrosses TA by a pretty good margin. It even outgrosses TA WW figure by almost $40 million. This should be a nice surprise for Disney.
  6. I think SW may not work that way. As it was first introduced in 1977, the story already revolves around Luke, Han & Leia with Obi Wan and the goofy robots along for the ride. The individual characters of THE AVENGERS have their own story outside the Avengers storyline, some way before. Cap'n America appeared some 20 years before THE AVENGERS. And it is the "worth of a ticket" argument. Audience knows full well SW is a full package. They will not buy ticket to a Han Solo Jr movie, a Luke Jr movie, a Chewbacca movie when they know they should get 3-in-1. It is the Wallmart culture. Whereas Iron Man, Cap'n & Thor even Hulk have their own separate fan bases. Then again, who the hell am I? Disney can sell anything anyway they want.
  7. Let's not forget DH2 is Harry Potter #8 Would IM8 earn as much? Perform as much?
  8. SPIDERMAN was one of the first kid-friendly superhero movies released after X-MEN started the whole superhero genre in the 2000s. After a relentless onslaught of SH movies, lots of them are poor to mediocre (FF, GL, GRider), GA is not as wild & enthused as before. Fatigue sets in. Always does.
  9. Expected, nobody is gonna say $160 million is not impressive But I was half-expecting a crazier $180-190 million opening with a steep drop of 60% following weekend.
  10. IM3 & P&G have a huge audience overlap. Non Bay/Wahlberg/Rock fans would ditch it for IM3. Plus it is not getting positive WOM. Expect 60% drop.
  11. TA did a 12-day $447.4 million OS in 2012. Let's see how IM3 would match that figure...
  12. But moviegoing is still cheapest form of entertainment. Isn't it a fact that movie attendance actually goes up when the economy is bad? Doesn't apply to France?
  13. Why Paramount let go of Dreamworks and let Fox has all the fun? Fox has their own Animation House that produces the very lucrative ICE AGE. 2015 is gonna be a great year for Fox, Panda & Dragon.
  14. Sounds like IM3 will go beyond the $600 million OS everybody's been predicting...
