  1. I gotta concede about the animation. It could just be the artstyle, but something about it feels... stiff. Like the budget had been slashed somewhere along the line. DeBose's singing is lovely, tho
  2. Cookie Pictures announces theatrical re-release of 'Hilda' and 'Scavenger Wars' films In preparation for their follow-ups scheduled for release on June 19th (The Scavenger Wars: The Ethereal Dream) and December 23rd (Hilda and the Black Forest) respectively in Y10, Cookie Pictures has announced today that the first three Scavenger Wars films, collectively dubbed the "Khouga Trilogy", as well as the Y7 animated fantasy adventure Hilda and the Midnight Giant, will be reissued in theaters and Dolby Cinema screens nationwide over the course of the calendar year. The plan outlined in the press release sent out to Cayom Magazine goes as follows: The Scavenger Wars: Remastered — Mid-to-late January The Scavenger Wars Part II: Director's Cut — Late February The Scavenger Wars Part III — Mid-to-late April Hilda and the Midnight Giant: Remastered — Labor Day As stated, The Scavenger Wars and Hilda and the Midnight Giant will be "remastered" for Dolby Cinema with updated visual effects and animation. Cookie Pictures also announced that moviegoers attending Dolby screenings of Hilda and the Midnight Giant: Remastered will receive a free poster and a discount code for Dolby screenings of Hilda and the Black Forest when it releases in December. Patrons are advised to check with their local Dolby cinemas for more details on the offer. "To show our continued commitment to the cinema experience and drum up excitement among moviegoers for our Y10 film slate, we're making the decision to bring back these acclaimed films to theaters for both fans and newcomers to experience," Cookie Pictures President and CEO Sebastian Peters said in a written statement. "We're also aware of the drought of content that plagued parts of previous years, and while that's not an issue that can easily be remedied, we hope that bringing these films back to theaters could aid them during quieter parts of the cinema year." More details on Hilda and the Black Forest and The Scavenger Wars: The Ethereal Dream are expected within the coming weeks. Exact dates on the Scavenger Wars re-releases will be determined at the start of Y10.
  3. I can see Wonka doing Mary Poppins Returns numbers, and Aquaman about $250m. Both would be a lot less than one movie alone has done in the past two years, so there should be plenty of room for both (provided WB gets their act together with marketing their films).

  5. @CookiePictures The following preview includes content some viewers may find disturbing. Viewer discretion is advised. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HFd6WXLkRxC6tW_qk_Z-9i9yAHmZvW89GY7_rgDkBHc/edit?usp=sharing
  6. A PG-13 Hunchback free from the shackles that held back the original would be amazing, imo. Not sure if Disney would ever go for it, but with the right creative team in place I would’ve been first in line for it.
  7. The ride is at its best when it manages to be both silly and scary, so if they get the scares down that could only be a plus.
  8. I incidentally think Big Short/Moneyball DOM is the highest Air could've gone, and it's going to end maybe $10-$15m below that threshold, so not too far off.
  9. Despicable Me 2 was nominated. The first film probably would've snatched a nom too if the category wasn't limited to three that year. Not that Mario is likely at all to be nominated given there's bound to be plenty of animated films out this year with stronger reviews than it.
  10. I don't see how they're really comparable to Air, though? American Hustle and The Mule are about crime. Lone Survivor and Captain Philips are about real people trapped in life-or-death situations. Safe Haven is a love story based on a Nicholas Sparks novel, which was a steady brand at the time. 42 is a sports drama about the athlete himself. Green Book is about race relations and panders to white people fantasies. I Can Only Imagine falls in the same category as Elvis and BoRap in that it's essentially a music biopic, only for a religious audience. Compared to that, what's Air about? If you're not into basketball or business dealings, what's supposed to sell you on it other than the cast? The only one I can think of that directly compares is Saving Mr. Banks, but it was also about Disney and a big nostalgic property in Mary Poppins. I think people are overstating Air having an "easy hook". I think the only thing that changed to its detriment is that star power alone doesn't sell people on movies anymore.
  11. Argo had life-or-death stakes. That movie even turns into a thriller in its last act. Monument's Men was a war movie. None of that can be applied to Air.
  12. Rio opened to like 1/5th of what Mario did and had next to no audience overlap with Scre4m. Competition wasn't really the problem.
  13. Yeah, I'm not 100% on board with the idea that Air would've done that much better pre-pandemic. It's still a film mostly about boardroom conversations and business dealings, and I struggle to remember the last time a movie like that was a big hit. I think it's doing pretty alright for what it is.
  14. This has to be one of the most ignorant posts made in this forum in a while, and that’s saying something.
  15. Hope they got the rights to more Toho monsters for this. I would’ve loved to see the two team up against something like Biolante, Gigan, or Destoroyah, or maybe combine the remains of Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla to create Mecha-King Ghidorah. There’s Mothra larvae crawling around going by the end of King of the Monsters, and Rodan should still be kicking around too.
  16. He's also falling behind in the polls against Trump, so this could all be a play to try and keep his name in the spotlight.
  17. The original is quite rushed in the latter half. The movie's nearly three-fifths of the way over by the time Ariel loses her voice and surfaces. If there are parts I expect to get beefed up it's likely towards that latter half.
  18. More experienced directors doesn’t equal bigger budgets. Director inexperience is actually often a leading cause behind budget overruns on big productions.
  19. Nothing's been made out of that branch yet, and I'm not going to count it until it does.
  20. Give Zelda to Dreamworks if you're going to do it animated. It wouldn't work in Illumination's wheelhouse at all.
