That's a hefty preview slant for a family film, which normally do around a third of OW in previews. Can it do £10m? Or even £8m to reach half of the first one?
The effect of opening in DH2's shadow was much more pronounced here over America, even with an extra week between them. Avengers certainly helped here more than IM3 and TDW.
My plans tonight have been screwed by annoying scheduling. Surely if you have 2 screens it would be easier to have the screenings at equal intervals instead of one followed by South hour followed by a 2 hour gap.
Odd observation, but tonight marks the first time that The Avengers will be shown in IMAX at the BFI IMAX. Good thing they have a digital projector as well as the Grand Theatre one now.
It had a stupid script. It had no characterisation. Every plot point could be spotted a mile away. But I still loved it. It was some cracking car porn!
I still remember the first film I saw on my own. It was Johnny English when I was 11 up at the Vue in Cambridge. Once I got my unlimited pass I started doing it constantly for about 2 and a half years. When it comes to the smaller more obscure films, you can't rely on your buddies being interested so you sometimes need to go alone.Just sat down at the Sky Superscreen at the o2. Fuck me, when you ignore the BFI IMAX, this is one of the most impressive screens I've seen in a while. It may be on a par with the IMAX screen at Cineworld Crawley!
It's more that the good will indy had originally has been blighted in many people's eyes Thanks to a recent disappointing sequel. While BTTF 2 and 3 weren't anywhere near as good, that sting isn't felt so badly anymore.
Slightly off topic, but I think behind Star Wars, Back To The Future seems to be the most relevant franchise from that era today. Lots of people talking about it still, especially in my age group, and the 30th anniversary next year is looking like it could become a pretty big event.
