  1. Nope. I accurately predicted the two box office events of this year back in 2017, so when you ignite the key in the bandwagon before everyone jumps on, the little failures seem quite inconsequential.
  2. So they might make around $1.5b with 15 movies that likely cost in excess of $1.5b to make? Wow, clearly the stuff of studio envy... The fact is, Ocean's 8, The Nun, and Fantastic Beasts are their only films this year that stand a good shot of turning a strong profit for them. That's not good when you have so many films and so few aren't high budget.
  3. WB crashed and burned hard with their biggest event film in their current biggest franchise 6 months ago, taking an actual loss on the movie, and now they've just unleashed 3 consecutive big budget franchise starters that are failures to launch in a little over the span of a month. They are not "fine" right now. Don't think all of that is going to go ignored or without concern over at the studio. If the exact same thing had happened to Disney, everyone would practically be calling for the end of the world.
  4. WB should be putting a ton of stock into making sure Godzilla 2 turns out as good as possible right now and then throw lots of marketing money at it so that Kong v Godzilla in 2020 has a legitimate shot to blow up. DCEU is way too rocky right now to count on and FB will probably remain extremely OS heavy. They need a big new franchise sooner than later.
  5. Lol, I still remember last year when he insisted Baywatch was quality filmmaking after the critical and box office trashing.
  6. Don't worry, the wait is almost over. Amy Schumer will be talking about her vagina in a movie next week.
  7. To be fair, when Peter Rabbit ends up the big non-Black Panther hit of the season, you can't really blame them for being a bit confused as to what the GA want.
  8. Rampage cost $30m more than Tomb Raider, so performing the same as that is significantly worse for it.
  9. Watch it open below Tomb Raider. The Rock earlier today reacting to the oh so prestigious 50% RT score on Twitter: Wow! Very cool RAMPAGE news! Not pointing to the scoreboard yet, but it seems we may have finally broken the dreaded video game curse. And remember, I starred in the stinker “Doom” so I have lived thy curse 🙏🏾 Hope ya like flashbacks, 'cuz you're about to relive it all over again, Dwayne.
  10. Just saw The Rock's tweet where he claims to have "cracked the video game curse" because Rampage might finish like 1% ahead of Tomb Raider on RT. Guess no one told him about the sub 30m OW incoming.
  11. A $229m OW prediction was given for TFA right before it opened. So that's gotta be the highest OW prediction ever made there.
  12. Well, they were. TFA had some of the best new character building of any modern blockbuster. Ah well.
  13. Bob - "Combustion imminent! What does that mean?" *Jack Jack explodes* Edna - "It means fire, Robert." Lmao, her delivery of that had me cracking up. That and the end bit with Frozone were the best parts. That's definitely more effective marketing than what's come before. The humor at least looks up to par (no pun intended), and the end of the trailer hinted at some cool family action scenes. Still hope we don't get too much of the stay at home Dad part though.
  14. Need to know the official budget. Too many conflicting reports. If it’s $175m or higher it’s in a similar boat as Justice League. Except at least that grossed its budget DOM.
  15. RPOs drop is on the harsh side if it doesn’t go up, but I was expecting a big drop this weekend. The movie is simply too niche. Doesn’t matter how good of a niche movie it is, it’s limited appeal doesn’t allow it to have crazy legs.
  16. I am curious what the pitch was for Rampage that convinced WB to spend $120m on it. Most video game movies based on actual popular and relevant games don’t get that kind of budget. Unless The Rock got like $40m of that or something...
  17. WB is completely stupid for not marketing Crazy Rich Asians whatsoever yet. Unless they know the movie is a real stinker, it seems like it would have a lot of breakout potential. They desperately need that and Oceans 8 to breakout this summer. Otherwise The Nun and Fantastic Beasts may be their only real success stories this year.
  18. Yikes @ the Rampage estimate. I can’t see why it would have better legs than TR did, especially with IW coming right around the corner. Also bad for RPO if that holds. WB took a loss on Justice League, which made roughly 1x its budget DOM and 3x WW. TR, RPO, and Rampage are all looking to be in a similar 3x their budget WW boat, except none will make their budget back DOM. Whether any of them end up profitable or not, it won’t be by much. Without China, all three would have been bonafide bombs. WB is not in good shape.
  19. If WOM is amazing, then maybe a small increase. But I won't be surprised if it opens to something like 175m, so it would have some work to do for legs.
  20. Eh, I doubt anyone besides Bullock and maybe Hathaway were capable of commanding very much. This is more a sum of its parts makes it an all star ensemble, rather than each individual is an all star.
  21. I think Hollywood has screwed the pooch too many times for too long when it come to video game movies and audiences are over it. One shitty one after the other, never getting better. Now the genre finally seems like it has been taking a step in the right direction with TR and this one, but unfortunately it seems the GA are done giving them chances. I think we're going to need a truly great one with a great marketing campaign to break the stigma at this point.
  22. The MT performance is kind of pathetic for this kind of a film. It's doing way worse than PRU did there. Granted that didn't have quite as much competition, but the competition isn't huge for Rampage either.
