  1. BW floppage doesn't surprise me. No one under 30 cares about the Blair Witch franchise and you simply can't have a horror hit without that audience. Not that bad for Bridget on the other hand considering it was never that big DOM and the last two are so old. Its OD is on par with the second one. Doing what it was made to do and cleaning up in Europe. Bring on next weekend and two 45m+ September OWs.
  2. At any rate, Imma pimp The Halloween Tree now: check it out sometime animation/halloween lovers! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0191173/?ref_=nv_sr_2
  3. Lol, you don't have to worry about that (though I do enjoy TLK 1 1/2). Aren't the DTV ones ineligible anyways? If not I definitely would have included The Halloween Tree very high on my list. Probably my fav non-theatrical animated film.
  4. Good to see Hanks has finally built himself back up to some kind of draw status again this decade after his floundering in the latter half of the naughties/early part of this decade. Captain Phillips, Saving Mr. Banks, Bridge of Spies, and Sully were all fantastic role choices on his part.
  5. Wow, we're gonna have three 100m+ September releases this year. Next weekend's battle of the back from the grave franchises should also be interesting to see if either makes a dent.
  6. Looking at other lists, there's like 5 movies I forgot about that I shoulda included. But I wonder if I really should include them if I forgot about them in the first place?

  8. Thanks for all the scoring Chas! Damn, I shoulda been better about not missing so many SOTMs and weeklies this summer, I think I didn't answer over half of the SOTMs. If I hadn't been bad about that, with my top 15 score I may have stood a good chance to really a hit a new game highpoint for myself.
  9. This was even better on a second viewing. The humor in the middle clicked much better for me this time, not sure why I found it out of place the first time. That third act is practically flawless. Just brilliant.
  10. With Don't Breathe doing so well critically, this has been quite the summer for acclaimed horror. The Conjuring 2, The Shallows, Lights Out, and Don't Breathe are all some of the best critically received horror of the decade.
  11. This could be the showpiece in a cinema as art discussion. Visuals on a whole new plateau for the medium. The story was powerful and poignant at its core, however some of the dialouge, character interactions, and tonal shifts in the middle felt a bit too conventional in a fairly unconventional film, and therefore out of place. Not bad though, just a bit jarring bookended by the first and third acts. The box office is tragic, but at the same time I can admit it's not really for kids under 11 or so, so it's not like there's no explanation for why it wouldn't do well. It should win everything as far as awards go. Zootopia is more finely tuned and perfected overall, but not of the level of visual or narrative artistic achievement as this. One of the best films of the decade so far, even with the flaws. Also the credit sequence set to that truly sublime rendition of While My Guitar Gently Weeps will go down as an all time favorite in credits for me. That alone is deserving of tons of awards.
  12. Yeah, the trailer attachment rate to movies was crazy for me, starting back with my TFA screening and never really letting up. They certainly tried at least.
  13. Not really...it's just non-cgi animation has ceased to be appealing to the GA for a decade. Even Disney couldn't get Princess and the Frog to be successful.
  14. Damn, I really thought Kubo could do a bit better than that. I mean how it can have a worse OD than Boxtrolls with a far more aggressive and mainstream looking marketing push and such striking visuals is beyond me. Hopefully goes up more to 5 at least.
  15. I remember that first trailer gave me a lot of hope. It looked like it could be something really special right off the bat. Do you think WOM will be there tribe?
  16. So stoked for this. I can't believe it sounds like it could be the best animated film of the year with Zootopia and Dory making such strong cases.

  18. Can you blame him? He's one of the big chunks of the cast that knows where his bread is buttered and it certainly isn't in his career outside of the franchise. As kowhite stated, Vin is the sun of the Fast solar system and I'm sure the people that want to stay in the franchise are gonna be quick to gravitate toward's him. One day Vin's supernova will burn out though and implode. I'll be there for that day, soaking in the glorious debris of that epic meltdown.
  19. I desperately want this to fail hard. It legitimately looks like the douchiest film of all time. Surprised Snyder or Bay didn't direct.
  20. Only 300k behind with a 115k higher 15th weekend. So possible. IM3 had two separate theater count expansions in August though not just one.
  21. Actually the entire top 8 highest grossing SM films fall into that horror animation sub-genre, except for Chicken Run. So it's the go-to niche for the medium.
  22. Gothic-animation/horror-animation I guess? Though Kubo doesn't fall into that, another reason I think it will do better than their usual. And Burton also targets that genre as well, and long before Laika's existence.
  23. Hope the WOM and legs will really be there like it was for Coraline and Paranorman since this has even better reviews.
