  1. The last was released when China was nowhere near the player they are now, and it still did 70m there. I wonder if China pushes this one past 900m OS? What if this ended up a billion dollar grosser while missing 100 DOM? That would be truly insane, and may even have a slight chance of actually happening.
  2. That was the 80's man, totally different time. I will remain convinced JC used his JC powers on the MPAA to score that Titanic rating in the late 90's.
  3. Zootopia's prospects look 550% better after that Sloth trailer. But TGD's marketing was going amazingly for awhile too. They need to be consistent and not drop the ball with it close to release like what happened here.
  4. The Academy will no doubt find someone they can give it to instead. If SJ is too much of a flop for Fass to win, then I guess it will have to either be Damon or a Redmayne repeat. Actually, Redmayne, Blanchett, and Mara could all win if the Academy wants to go for an LGBT agenda this year. Kinda like their "see, we're not racist!" agenda of the Berry/Denzel year.
  5. JC probably threatened the lives of the MPAA heads to score that PG-13 rating for Titanic. He's no fool, he knew it would be impossible for that movie to really be big as an R. And he wasn't cutting his bewbs either.
  6. The poor family schmucks who didn't buy pre-sale tickets for SW? Though hopefully they will opt for TGD before this.
  7. That always sounded right for Peanuts to me, but the other 3 are sure big surprises to me. Going into the winter game I thought Spectre and TGD were locked for 250, Mj2 locked for 350, and TGD had potential to go 350+.
  8. Yeah, the lower opening should definitely make for stronger initial holds than the likes of Tangled or Frozen. For example, Rise of the Guardians only dropped 43% its second weekend, opposed to the 50%+ drops for Tangled/Frozen. Giving it Guardian's same 5 day multi puts it at a $178m finish. Tangled's gives it $162m. So since it opened between those two, maybe it will finish between their multis as well at around 170m or so. Hopefully at least.
  9. Its weekend holds at least were extremely similar to Frozen's, and those were really strong holds. So I am going to just take that as a good sign for early WOM.
  10. All I know is this better not even make $1 profit or I weep for the state of our youth. Though I am a little worried, since aside from BH6 and IO, crappy/mediocre animation/kids flicks have been beating the quality ones the last year or two (i.e. Home, HT2, Minions, Spongebob, Ninja Turtles all more successful than Dragon 2, TGD, Peanuts, or Paddington). If this beats TGD somehow, I am buying a ticket, jumping into the screen, and skinning the furry CGI little bastards alive.
  11. Doubt that. Peanuts is looking at 135-140 total. TGD should at least be able to pull 145 with its opening, unless it does get bad WOM and then I will really be scratching my head.
  12. Yeah, it seems like everything is down below 1m weekends after two months now. Home, Ant-Man, MI5, JW, and Minions all managed their last 1m+ weekend around the two month mark, and it looks like next weekend might be the last for The Martian which will be exactly its two month mark. I think IO is the only one to go any longer than that this year, it went about 2 weekends past its 2 month mark over 1m (not counting its expansion). Nowadays we have huge blockbusters like Furious 7 closing after a mere two months.
  13. They dropped the ball on the marketing in the last month, animation over-saturation, dino over-saturation. Otherwise I have no clue WWW.
  14. I should really watch the first before I see this Tuesday. Its been years and years .
  15. Same. Would also be nice for me if TGD, Creed, and VF can get $1.2m more between them in actuals for question 16 to be yes.
  16. Yeah, it is becoming increasingly harder for movies to maintain great late legs, since they get dumped from so many theaters around the 6 week mark, even if they are doing great. Just becoming so impossible for movies to play more than like 3 months these days, with the exception of maybe animation.
  17. Even with great legs, I can't believe TGD could take the long standing title from A Bug's Life as Pixar's lowest grossing DOM. I just can't understand that at all.
  18. Fantastic hold for MJ2. Now it just needs to keep this up until SW so it can salvage itself a little bit. Great for Creed. Baumer's club is going to be very close, since it will probably finish between 120-130 with that opening. BoS and Goosebumps kinda went south fast after all those great holds. Both looked like they were headed for 90 for awhile, and now neither may hit 80.
  19. Tele going into beast mode after not doing so well those first few weeks. I think he won the week again and got like 40k+ points.
  20. Fuuuuuuuuudge! I may have got 10 of the questions wrong this week! Dammit, and I didn't even think they were hard questions! Goodbye #1 spot, it was nice knowing you.
  21. I doubt that. I think Larson has it in the bag based on her reception and since Blanchett and J Law already have their oscars.
  22. Speaking of JW, I took my little nephews to see TGD because my sister wasn't going to and said "I'm sick of dinosaurs everywhere, they're supposed to be extinct." Thought that was probably just her, but maybe JW did burn everyone out on dinos for awhile?
  23. Well it certainly doesn't help their continuing case of sequelitis. For all IO may have done to help with that, TGD may be reversing it and they're probably happy again now that they have nothing but sequels on the slate.
  24. Sicario is a slow trudge of a film. I'm not saying it's not good and it has an extremely thought provoking point to make, but you will likely be bored if slow burn dramas aren't your thing. At least be in the mood for that kind of film when you watch it.
