  1. Then why are words like unknown and 'not A-list' being thrown around?
  2. I never said they are Box Office draws. But I'm starting to suspect you have difficulty reading... A-Listers and Box Office draws are two different things. Adam Sandler is a BO draw, but he will never be A-list. Clooney and Bullock might not be BO draws on the level of Depp or Downey Jr., but they are as A-list as it gets. Even overseas. Sure it differs per country. But do not confuse your own experiences in your country with all international regions. Here in The Netherlands, Sandra Bullock is a household name as one the public's favorite actresses. And Clooney is every bit as popular. Once again, A-list and Box Office are two different things. Oprah doesn't really rake in the cash because she rarely makes a movie. But she's an A-list megastar.
  3. That's because they do not star in commercial blockbusters with international appeal. The Blind Side was not designed for overseas audiences. There's a reason she's America's sweetheart after all.But listing a bunch of BO statistics does not change the fact that they're huge stars the world over. I can barely believe the bullshit I'm reading here. There is more than just opening weekend numbers. There is status.Depp and Downey Jr. star in high profile billion dollar hits because that's what they do. They don't have Oscars and it doesn't make them more famous or more A-list than Clooney or Bullock. Some of the greatest stars in Hollywood history barely ever had financially successful films in theaters. Small projects and Oscars on the shelf can generate the same status as a Box office draw.Box Office is not the be-all, end-all of determining an actor's status in Hollywood or their fame outside the US. This is ridiculous.
  4. Maybe in China. Where I live Clooney and Bullock are as big and A-list as it gets. Just because they never star in big-budget blockbuster projects doesn't mean they don't have star quality. They're fucking Bullock and Clooney. It doesn't get any bigger than that.
  5. Bullock just locked that nomination in my opinion. With Gravity's success it's hard to ignore her performance. She might not win, but it was the performance of a lifetime for me. She was easily at her best. And this years double punch of The Heat & Gravity totally outshines 2009's The Proposal & The Blind Side. Quickly morphing into the biggest female movie star in the world.
  6. Thought it was phenomenal. The rebirth symbolism was beautiful and well done. Sandra was good in The Blind Side but this is the performance/film of her career. The one that will define her and cement her place among the greats where she belongs. I loved Cuaron already, but he's outdone himself here. I would rank it ahead of Azkaban as my favorite of his films.
  7. That's hilarious for Runner, Runner... Runner Runner = RR RR = Ryan Reynolds Coincidence?
  8. Their 'combined star power'? Since when can either of these two overrated nitwits open a movie? If anything, they're Box Office poison. Especially when you let them go up against Clooney and Bullock. THAT is what I call star power. Who writes this crap?
  9. Tangled cost over $300 million to make. Granted, it was worth the investment because Rapunzel is now one of the company's #1 merchandise monsters, raking in billions each year. And a spin-off + Broadway adaptation are in the works. But it did not make a profit at the Box Office. And for Disney, this is what it's all about: merchandise and longevity. Monsters, Inc has been a top moneymaker for years, MU was simply a little boost for merchandise sales. Just like Cars 2 and Planes were boosts. The millions they spend in production are recouped through merchandise sales. It's easy to sit here and judge a movie's performance solely on Box Office when we know nothing about how it performed in other aspects. Hell, we don't even know what Disney's targets are.
  10. Next year looks to be Dragon vs Big Hero 6. Empty indeed....
  11. I know Frozen's big song is called 'Let it Go' and it will probably receive the Oscar push. Everything else is still..... something
  12. Depending on how many nominations we will have, this is how I see it playing out this year: The Wind Rises (winner) Frozen Despicable Me 2 Monsters University The Croods
  13. And it has quite a few markets left. With that $50 million budget, this is turning a nice profit. Especially when you factor in the dvd and merchandise sales. Now if only it didn't suck ass.
  14. Oprah was an Oscar nominee before she become a celebrity and 'spiritual guru'. Her TV show may have been just a talk show, it was, truly, the performance of a lifetime. Oprah is an actress. Through and through.
  15. I'd rather have Frozen win because WDAS has yet to win in the first place. Then release TWR next year so Ghibli can take hom their second Oscar.
  16. Smurfs, Avatar, who can really tell the difference. The protagonists are blue and you'll know how it ends 5 minutes into the movie.
  17. Planes started making a profit the minute it was invented by the Disney executives. Still, that's a bad number.
  18. Planes is sinking. I'm glad to be wrong for once. Thought it would be much bigger. Good for the Millers I suppose.
  19. It's called synergy and Disney has mastered it. If you think they're still mourning the loss of The Lone Ranger you're kidding yourself.
  20. Disney animation doing obscure Marvel, this film just sells itself. $200 million easily.
  21. Finding Dory is going to absolutely destroy Box Office records for an animated feature. Nemo was one of PIXAR's top hits in Europe during the fall/winter of 2003. And with the sequel also set for winter, it's going to be huge. Japan will be back for this one as well I'm sure. It will definitely close in on Toy Story 3's worldwide record.
