  1. Oh wow, 2B yen OW maybe? In only 2 days? That would be super crazy. I just hope BH6 can have good OW and great legs.
  2. Relax, it's not DOA. The market can sustain multiple movies, especially in the summer and the holidays, even those that are targeting the same demographic. We've seen Pixar and Ghibli movies going head to head numerous time and they were all successful. Besides, movies in Japan rely heavily on legs, and I'm confident BH6 will get good WOM and hence good legs, especially because it's December.
  3. That's great! With new and original casts, the 2nd movie will be big then. Btw, Stand By Me Doraemon has just been released here. It's only playing in one theater chain, but the hype is HUGE. Since the announcement of its release, it has been one of the most anticipated movies this year. Everyone I know is talking about it. In my theater, it's playing in 5 screens and for Saturday shows, the tickets are already sold out or nearly sold out! With the success of Detective Conan, Kenshin and now Doraemon, I hope more Japanese movies will be released here in the future.
  4. Oh wow I didn't even know there was a new Hero TV drama this year. Dang I missed it! Hero is one of my favorite Japanese TV dramas. But I just found out Takako Matsu and some regular casts are not in the 2014 drama. That sucks, because Matsu is one of my favorite Japanese actresses. I think because of this, Hero 2 will not be as big as the first movie.
  5. I haven't seen Keaton in Birdman or the other performances for that matter, since those movies are not released here yet, but I just saw The Imitation Game today and Cumberbatch was really strong. So nomination is a lock, and he could even win.
  6. That's what I thought too, but then again he created the whole thing. And also he's the leader. Without him, there will be nothing. So he doesn't just ride Baymax. Maybe not worldwide, but it's already close to a phenomenon in some Asian countries (including mine). And I can see it become one in Japan. Not as big as Frozen of course, but pretty big. Baymax is already popular there before the movie even comes out.
  7. And I think in Thailand too. A lot of local romcom movies were very successful there. Bangkok Traffic Love Story, Hello Stranger, ATM: Er Rak Error, all of them were in the yearly top 5, even top 3 in their respective years according to BOM. Those movies were released here too, and I really enjoyed them.
  8. Maybe it's a slow burner. If I remember correctly, Frozen's crazy legs didn't start until its 3rd weekend. Well, its 2nd weekend drop was great considering it was post-thanksgiving, but not really that exceptional. Maybe it's the same with BH6, or at least that's what I'm hoping. Too bad my country is not a big market in terms of box office, because the WOM here is amazing.
  9. Been asking the same question. Not a single drop over 50% so far. That's very rare for a horror movie, especially one with only 7% on RT.
  10. I mentioned Madagascar 2 because it opened on the exact same date, so the holidays for both movies fall on the same day, hence it's easy to compare them daily. Especially this week with Veterans Day, and this weekend with BH6's number looking very close to Mad 2's 2nd weekend. Meanwhile, WIR 2nd weekend was helped by Veterans Day falling on Sunday in 2012, so it had a softer drop. That's why I don't think WIR is the best comparison for this week. But, for overall legs, yeah WIR is the best one since it's also a well-reviewed WDAS movie released in early November, and allegedly a boy-centric movie.
  11. Just saw BH6 for the 2nd time. Still laughed a lot and cried a lot. Now I'm sure it's my favorite movie of the year. I just can't stop thinking about it, I don't know why. Literally everybody I know who has already seen it said it was amazing. Some theaters here even added screens for it. Last week Interstellar had more screens than BH6, this week BH6 has more. I think its WOM is the strongest for any movie this year. I hope it's the same in the US too. And other countries. Easily over, if it follows Madagascar 2, which was released on the exact same date as BH6, so it's comparable, at least the drops for the weekend.
  12. I said it in the BH6 thread, I'm surprised BH6 was #1 in Indonesia instead of Interstellar, considering Interstellar has more screens, and here, screen count pretty much determines how big the opening is gonna be. But then again longer runtime means less showtime, so maybe that's why.
  13. Wait, not Interstellar? That's interesting. I thought Interstellar had more screens, and here, screen count pretty much determines how big the opening is gonna be.
  14. I just had a fun discussion about BH6 with my best friend's sons, 6 and 4 years old. When I asked them how the movie was, they couldn't stop talking about it. And they REALLY loved the thing. They did it with me over and over again and laughed every time we did it. I agree, I can see great box office result in Japan. Not because of the Japanese elements in the movie, but because of the movie itself, how emotional it is.
  15. Yeah it was interesting. I can speak Japanese, and Honey Lemon pronounced it like how Japanese would pronounce "Hiro". So she's actually the correct one. But then maybe it's different in that world.
  16. Just saw it and I LOVED it! It exceeded my expectation which was already high. I laughed a lot, cried a lot, what an awesome and emotional experience. It was an almost sold-out show, and the crowd, young and old, seemed to have the same reaction. Yesss. Especially the animation on the city was amazing. It was so detailed and real. And the humor was the kind of humor for everybody. And yeah I can relate more to the relationship between Tadashi and Hiro than Elsa and Anna, maybe because I have a brother too, and Tadashi is like an ideal big brother. Although IMO Frozen is still slightly better because to me it has more depth. I hope BH6 will make a lot of money. I want it to beat The Lego Movie, but unfortunately it's unlikely with that opening. The exact same thing at my cinema.
  17. I know we're talking about domestic runs, but I got that kind of excitement when I was following Frozen's run in Japan. It was #1 for 16 weeks in a row and had 33x multiplier! Making about the same amount of money for weeks, with increases here and there. The OW was already big, but its 8th weekend was the biggest one. Its 12th weekend only dropped like 1% from it's OW. I feel really lucky to be able to witness that. Would be great if something like this happens in the US box office too. If it ever happens, I think it will be a movie that we didn't expect at all. Something that we will never see it coming.
  18. That is crazy! I knew it would open big since literally everybody's talking about it right now, and it's crazy on social media with all those memes. But $2.5m? For comparison, The Avengers opened with $2.9m. Unlike TA, which managed to get more than 4x multiplier to become the highest grossing movie ever at the time, the legs for Annabelle won't be good. People are disappointed with the movie.
  19. You've seen the 3rd one? Lucky you! The 2nd movie is doing well here too. But the 3rd one hasn't been released yet. Can't wait to see it.
  20. Indonesia is one of those smaller markets. And Annabelle is doing really well. The hype is HUGE, since The Conjuring was very popular here. It's getting a blockbuster treatment, with multiple screens in several theaters. The theater I went to has the biggest screens (hence the most seats) in this country and they gave them all to Annabelle. And those shows were nearly sold out on Saturday. Not sure about the WOM though.
  21. Btw from Corpse at WOKJ Weekend Ranking (09/27-28) 01 (01) Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends (Warner Bros.) Week 3 02 (02) Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (Fox) Week 2 03 (03) Stand By Me, Doraemon (Toho) Week 8 04 (04) Lupin III (Toho) Week 5 05 (05) Guardians of the Galaxy (Disney) Week 3 06 (06) Revenge of the Pomegranate Hill Tree (Shochiku) Week 2 07 (--) Jersey Boys (Warner Bros.) DEBUT 08 (07) Lady Maiko (Toho) Week 3 09 (09) Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno (Warner Bros.) Week 9 10 (--) Zero the Movie (Kadokawa) DEBUT >Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends stays on top without any significant new competition, dropping 34% to take in ¥277,466,900 ($2.5 million) with 209,034 admissions. After 3-weeks in release, it has earned ¥3.05 billion ($28.7 million) with 2.38 million admissions. It'll have little trouble exceeding ¥4 billion (about $40 million), but I doubt it reaches the ¥5 billion mark that its predecessor managed to do this past week. >Stand By Me, Doraemon remains strong, achieving 8-consecutive weeks in the Top 3 (5 of which were consecutive weeks at #1). After 8-weeks, it's exceeded ¥7.5 billion ($73 million) and 5.68 million admissions. It'll become the Highest-Grossing non-Ghibli/Disney Animated film any day now, most-likely on Wednesday. Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back! has held that record since 1998, so this is an amazing achievement from Doraemon. >Lupin III exceeded ¥2 billion ($19 million) after 5-weeks in release. >Jersey Boys was the weekend's top openers, grossing a weak ¥54,002,700 ($500,000) with 42,773 admissions on 143 screens. This is by far one of Clint Eastwood's worst showings, but it's also one that probably was expected to do poorly. >Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno remains in the Top 10 even with The Legend Ends still atop the box-office. It has exceeded ¥5 billion ($48 million) now, making it only 6th domestic live-action film to reach the mark that hasn't been released by Toho. It joins Antarctica (1983), Heaven and Earth (1990), Yamato (2005), Death Note: The Last Name (2006), and Departures (2008). >Zero the Movie rounds out the Top 10 with a debut of just ¥27,265,200 ($252,000) with 20,659 admissions on 133 screens. I wasn't following this one, so maybe it wasn't expected to do much, but this is pretty terrible.
  22. It's the third movie. The second one was released a couple of months ago.
  23. You mean, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes . Anyway, that's too bad. I was really hoping it could at least match Rise's number in yen. Could it?
  24. Well, no movies will do as well as Frozen in Japan. At least not for a while . The point is, we can't really use Frozen as a comparison now. I mean, how many movies made $250M in Japan? But, I do believe BH6 will be a success there, by normal standard.
