  1. FF7 opened on Wednesday here. Tried to saw it on OD but couldn't get the ticket. Apparently tickets for it are really hard to get. Sellouts everywhere. Unless you arrive like 3 hours earlier or book your tickets beforehand, you won't get them. Especially today, a public holiday (Good Friday). And since 90% of the people in this country aren't even celebrating Easter, so they had nothing else to do, theaters were crowded with people. Fortunately I learned from my mistakes and bought the tickets online yesterday. Enjoyed the movie very much. Gonna be a HUGE 5-day OW.
  2. On the "Best non OS markets single run performance" list? Since the highest grossing Bollywood movie of all time (by far) "only" made around $75m in India, so no.
  3. It's doing well in South East Asia, if I'm not mistaken. At least here in Indonesia, Cinderella is huge, thanks to the great WOM. It's still playing in multiple screens at many theaters despite competition from Insurgent, which is also doing really well. I'm glad that China is starting to appreciate good movies (and Disney movies), and reject the bad ones (JA, Taken 3) . I didn't expect Cindy or BH6 to do this well, even with the superheroes aspect in BH6. And it looks like Kingsman will be a success too.
  4. I'm surprised Cinderella is performing really strong in Asia. I thought this would be more "European" than "Asian", especially since it's more like a period-fantasy than action-fantasy like Maleficent. They said here in Indonesia it's the biggest ever opening weekend for a Disney Live Action production. Which means it's higher than Maleficent, and that movie was huge last year. It's also big in China and I have a feeling it's gonna be big in Japan as well.
  5. So Dragon Blade is not a good movie? I'm planing to see it this weekend because of Jackie Chan, but now I'm not so sure. Maybe I'll wait for Macau 2 instead.
  6. Here you go, from Corpes. Those movies are near the end of their runs, so no significant changes. 7. BH6 was my favorite movie last year so I'm happy for it, and Feast . But at the same time I was also kinda sad because HTTYD lost again. Oh well, maybe HTTYD 3?
  8. Yeah, I get it. I guess I was still disappointed Apes lost the first time around, and hoping the Academy would recognize it this time.
  9. I only got 2 categories wrong this year, Best Visual Effects (Apes lost again despite having one of the best visual effects I've ever seen ) and Best Original Screenplay. The best I've ever been. And I just wanna say I'm soooo happy for Desplat. He's my favorite film composer. He has been nominated almost every year and never won, and finally he did! Also glad The Imitation Game won an Oscar, making every single BP nominees won at least one. The show itself sucked though. I love NPH, but the writing, the skits, and the jokes were bad. Thank god for Lady Gaga.
  10. Wow American Sniper! I never thought it would do that good. I was expecting a bomb/disappointment. I mean a patriotic middle east war movie, with "American" in its title? Doesn't sound like a movie that the Japanese would like. I guess they really love Clint Eastwood. And it looks like the "family man" part is appealing to the Japanese. Even the poster emphasizes "a loving father" rather than "a lethal sniper". Reminds me of Ted. That was also an unlikely surprise hit. BH6 is getting closer and closer to 9 billion yen. Will it get there? Either way, its performance has been very impressive. After its OW, I didn't expect it to pass 6b.
  11. Maybe? Even if it is, I don't think they like to enjoy it in public.
  12. Wow Detective Conan and Dragon Ball on the same day. Does Cinderella has any other competition? Because with that schedule it will easily dominates Golden Week.
  13. Maybe 5x or 6x? Or more if it's well-received in Japan. Usually the #10 movie of the year makes around $30m, and there are only 1 or 2 movies (or none) above $100m each year, so I think 4.5 multiplier is acceptable.
  14. Wait, there's a Mr. Children movie? Is it a concert movie? How didn't I know about it? Mr. Children is like my favorite band ever. I'm failing as a fan. lol
  15. I just realized, with how bad exchange rates have been going since 2013, in local currency, I think Big Hero 6 could actually be the highest grossing animated film of all time in Indonesia, beating Despicable Me 2. Unfortunately, we don't have the numbers.
  16. Ah I see. Good to know that. I really like him. Btw yesterday I just saw the trailer of Ode to My Father in the theater. Looked pretty epic. I love these kind of movies. Definitely gonna see it when it's released here.
  17. You took the words right out of my mouth. I was about to say the exact same thing . But I'm wondering why Won Bin doesn't appear in more movies. The Man from Nowhere was his latest one and it was 5 years ago. If I'm not mistaken, he only has 4 movies since 2004!
  18. It definitely could. I'm not sure Cinderella can make more than Maleficent, and SW7 will be included in 2016 yearly ranking. Although I hope at least one movie cross 10b yen.
  19. Yeah. Let's say Frozen "only" made 12b yen, which would still be the #1 movie of 2014 by far. Then there would be a decrease in gross.
  20. Oh I have a lot of favorite Korean movies : - Masquerade - Snowpiercer - The Host - Miracle in Cell No. 7 - Shiri - Friend - My Sassy Girl - King and the Clown - Welcome to Dongmakgol - The Man From Nowhere - Oldboy - Taegukgi - The Terror Live (I can't believe how intense and thrilling this movie is) - Mother - Memories of Murder
  21. That's how it is in Japan. December movies are included in the following year's yearly ranking, sometimes even late November movies if they're leggy.
  22. Apparently it's off. 6.4 billion yen means around $54M. They often underestimated Frozen too. BH6 and Yokai will be really close after this weekend.
  23. Finally BH6's number in Indonesia! And it's huge! I think it's the 2nd biggest animated film ever, only behind Despicable Me 2. And wow it's even bigger in Malaysia. I wonder why is it so big in South East Asia? The Asian element? The superhero element?
