  1. Just saw PK again for the 2nd time. This time with my family. I really love this movie! After 5 weeks it's still playing in the theaters here in Indonesia. That is very very rare for any kind of movie (including Hollywood), let alone a Bollywood movie whose target audience is limited. And my show was 80-85% full! In its 5th weekend! I also noticed something interesting. When I saw it for the first time on OW, most of the people in the audience were Indians, or Indonesians of Indian descent. Now, most of them are Indonesians. So I guess the WOM has spread slowly and widely to the people outside its main target (Indians and Bollywood lovers), showing this movie has global appeals, especially here where religion is a big part and a sensitive topic too.
  2. LOL it's already at 5.7b yen and will soon cross 6b. That's like what, 1.6b yen (around $14m) in 8 days? Seriously, I'm loving BH6's run so far. 8b yen total would be much better than I expected. With that number It could be the #1 movie of 2015. Although I hope there will be a 10b+ movie in 2015. Taken 3 is disappointing. It looks like male-centric action movies are dying in Japan. I'm worried about TA2 and SW7.
  3. But to many (younger) people, they are new songs . In all seriousness though, they are not just songs "inspired by" the movie. Each of them (except 1) was actually used in the movie in a memorable and perfectly fit scene. The fact that the songs are awesome also help.
  4. Last week was still year-end/new year holiday, so yeah I think it's a good drop.
  5. Yeah, especially Yokai. 5.4 billion yen already. It could actually get to 7b. If it does, it will be harder for BH6 to pass Yokai's total, but BH6 will get 6b+ I think. Apparently a lot of other movies increased this past weekend (The Vancouver Asahi increased 50%, The Hobbit +8.3%, Gone Girl +4.5%, etc), so I think the increase was kinda normal. But BH6 still had the 2nd biggest increase in the top 10, and a 3rd weekend that is better than its OW. That's pretty impressive. Usually it's a sign of good legs to follow. BH6's holds on weekdays during the holidays were great too. So I'm guessing overall it's a better-than-normal performance for a December release.
  6. Go Paddington! I love that movie! I wanted it to be the biggest of the year, but 2nd biggest is great too.
  7. Wow PK broke the all time record and then passed 300 crore rather easily. Congrats! Aamir Khan really is the king of box office.
  8. Actually, "Beautiful World" is not Hikaru's last song. It was released in 2007. And she had a bunch of songs after that before the hiatus. But yeah, this is a new video using her song, as a promotional video for Hikaru's cover album "Utada Hikaru no Uta", a compilation of her songs sung by other Japanese artists. Can't wait for her new song. She's one my favorite artists ever.
  9. Whaaa? Frozen 2.0? Or maybe it's just because of the holidays. We will know better after the holidays end.
  10. Yeah, I think they're not as direct as you would assume. "Animation" does not always equal "family". Disney/Pixar movies usually attract older crowds too, while the crowds for movies like Doraemon or Yokai Watch mainly consist of younger kids (and their parents).
  11. Sorry for that. In this thread the daily numbers from 4 big chains most of the time only focus on the biggest movies that day. It's not an official chart anyway. In fact, there are rarely official reports from Japan on the box office, except for openers and movies with big numbers. But for the weekend, we have estimates for all movies in the top 10 from corpse.
  12. Yay BH6! But they're only 6 pm numbers, right? Will they still be lower than yesterday for the whole day? Btw, Stand By Me Doraemon is a HUGE success here in Indonesia. It's reported to have reached 1 million admissions already, or around $4.5m, which is enough to be in the yearly top 10, even though it's playing in only 15 theaters or so. Imagine if it got a wide release. Could have been the biggest movie of the year. I don't have BH6 number here, but I think Doraemon is bigger, hence it's the first time a non-Hollywood animation becomes the biggest animated movie of the year.
  13. Well, its OW was impressive, it's holding really well so far, and it's heading to a great total. It's gonna be one of the biggest movies of 2015 in Japan. How much more do you expect?
  14. Yeah, that is why it's so exciting to follow PK's run. Aamir Khan will make history, again! If I'm not mistaken, Dhoom 3 is also the first 250 cr nett grosser, and the only one so far.
  15. The drop for BH6 and increase for Yokai on Friday were more because of how BH6 skews older than Yokai, they had little to do with the quality of the movies. I think that's where the trolling accusation came from.
  16. Yeah, I was surprised too. It's almost 2 months and it's still playing. Very rare for a movie here. For comparison, Penguins of Madagascar is in its 4-5th week and already down to only 5 theaters in Jakarta.
  17. Oh it's okay, I was just asking. I assumed the term originated in Japan, because the Japanese name for "Japan", which is "Nihon" or "Nippon" can be translated as "where the sun comes from", or something like that. And that we adopted that term around the time when Japan occupied our country, and have been using it since. So I thought maybe my assumption was wrong. And.. now we have the answer. Btw, minimum drop for BH6 despite Wednesday being a discount day.
  18. So much for BH6 being a "boy-centric" film. Wait, it's a western term? Because also we call Japan with the exact same term (but in our language) here.
  19. Very nice for BH6. Bigger than its OD at Toho. Maybe it's a good sign for its legs?
  20. BH6's OW is not just fine. It's actually pretty impressive. I didn't expect it would be over 600m yen, especially against a monster hit. The crappy exchange rate makes it look less impressive. Now I'm hoping it gets at least 10x multiplier for a 6b+ total . But I will still be happy with 5b yen.
  21. Yeah I think it's on track to do big numbers, or at least it's expected to. The trailer shows nothing about the plot. I had the same reaction as you did. But I saw it anyway because of 3 Idiots and Aamir Khan, and it did deliver, big time.
  22. Agreed! I just saw it yesterday, and wow it blew me away. The show I went to was 95% full (or even 100%, I wasn't sure) and it's vey rare for a Bollywood movie released here (Indonesia). Most of the crowds were Indians and they seemed REALLY loved it too. Some of them were clapping and cheering. And that cameo at the end, I didn't know at all he's gonna be in the movie. I think I squealed a little when I saw him, because he and Aamir Khan are my favorite Bollywood actors and I was so happy to see them on the same scene. I don't know if that's a spoiler so I'm using the tag anyway. What about 2 States? And Queen? I think they're pretty good. And they had legs too, especially Queen.
  23. One of the most anticiapted, if not the most anticipated Bollywood movie this year, starring Aamir Khan, one of the biggest Bollywood stars. It opened in Indonesia too on Friday, and the show I went to was 95% full. That's very rare for a Bollywood movie.
