  1. Great first episode. I read somewhere that the Omaha opening could have been a short film... so good. Even better second episode. I really can't wait to see where this goes!
  2. Despite its (many) flaws, this has some of the best setpieces of any blockbuster from the past decade (side note - this is 10 years old. I feel fucking old). That first tripod attack is insane. Spielberg is so good at capturing mass hysteria and panic. That scene is just heart stoppingly intense.
  3. Jesus that's HUGE. About $21m at current exchange rates. Should clear $50m or so. Us Brits love us some softcore S&M (and some Jamie Dornan)
  4. SM2 SM SM3 (Sandman birth saves it) TASM TASM2
  5. Loads of girls in my office are seeing this en masse. They think they're the SATC girls: Reality: Seriously interested to see UK numbers... The first SATC film was ridiculously huge here ($17m OW, not sure what it was in £ at the time - prob about £9m, the GBP/USD rate was still close to 2 back then ) This might not be THAT big but should be in the same ball park.
  6. Also yay for Kingsman. Haven't seen it yet but I pretty much love anything Matthew Vaughn does so more power to him,
  7. So what are we looking at - 85m OW? That's just silly, regardless of inflated expectations round these parts. That would make worst possible DOM total about $180m, although it should be able to break $200m. Add the even more silly international numbers to the mix and we've probably got a half billion grosser. From a budget of $40m. A franchise is most definitely born - the only question is, will subsequent entries decline without the halo effect and hype around this first entry (a la SATC)? Or will they reach new highs with the sequels (a la Twilight)?
  8. This is on TV now (in the UK). I could list everything I love about this but I think Cameron encapsulates his genius in one cut (Sarah Connor at the mental institute being assessed by Dr Silberman - I copied this from the script) SILBERMAN I see. So you don't believe anymore that the company covered it up? Sarah shakes her head no. CUT TO: 32 EXT. CYBERDYNE SYSTEMS - DAY The corporate headquarters of a mega-electronic corporation. As imposing cubist castle of black glass. Most other directors wouldn't have actually thought of jump cutting to a scene showing the extent of the conspiracy at that point. The way it's cut and edited together is just masterful. I remember my 12 year old mind being blown by the thought of future tech being the reason for the rapid advancements in micro computing. Also - one handed shotgun reloads. Also - I was in LA last week and every single storm drain we drove over (and it was many) made me think of this movie. Such is the power of Cameron. Final thought - I loved Avatar but I would give my left arm for Cameron to return to R rated action thrillers.
  9. Loved the first season. I've only seen the first episode of S2. The sexual tension between Patrick and Kevin was my favourite aspect of the first season, I'm interested to see how it pans out now they're fucking.
  10. I have nothing to add to this thread that hasn't been mentioned already (far more eloquently than I could ever put it too), but yeah, I loved this. Best of 2014 and one of my favourites of the past few years. JK Simmons is incredible (obviously) but I thought Teller was just as good. I don't think I've been so completely hooked into a film for a long time. Can't wait to see what Chazelle does next.
  11. Aliens is as close to movie perfection as it gets. It's my all time number 1.
  12. 16 9 Mortdecai LGF $1,425,000 -66.1% 2,648 - $538 $6,844,000 $60 2 LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL $538 per theatre avg LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
  13. So... Saturday increases should be normal and Sunday very heavy? Can AS get to $30m? Hoping this is more of a blip and legs carry on as before following this weekend...
  14. OT - so you're Romanian James? Ah.... Would love to visit Bucharest some time, I was always fascinated by the Caeusescu years when I was younger... Crazy to think that was less than 30 years ago.
  15. Probably going to get lynched for this... But Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, whilst very very good, wasn't the masterpiece that many made it out to be.
  16. So what's that? About a 27% increase? Pretty good no? But more of a course correction after a depressed Monday perhaps..
  17. just reposting what I said in Kalo's Top 100 Hottest Actors thread: Pratt's 'normal-ness' is by far his greatest asset. He just seems like a great guy. And that he's had to work hard to get to heartthrob status makes him all the more relatable & lovable. Love him Just goes to show that there ain't nothing sexier than a good old fashioned sense of humour.
  18. Caught this again recently. Its aged pretty well. Yeah its not perfect, and it certainly aint the first one, but it IS a visually stunning, intelligent, ambitious and thrilling mess. I love the additional mythology layered in throughout the film, although the Matrix scenes to me are for more interesting than those in Zion.. For some reason the Zion stuff never quite connected as well. Anyway, I remember the anticipation and excitement from way back when and even though it didn't quite live up to my stupidly high expectations, I still left the cinema pretty pleased. So many great set pieces (the freeway chase, I mean C'MON) and so much to talk and think about. Compare this with the some of the 'will this do' half assed blockbusters of today and I'd take this any day
  19. Still the gold standard for modern horror. And Drew Barrymore's death will always upset me as it did when I was 13
  20. Fun fact - AS opened a shade under Godzilla, and will outgross its total in 11 days of wide release. Wow dem Godzilla legs be so shitty.
  21. With a small but not impossible chance of ending up in the All Time Top 10 domestic grossers (unadjusted of course). And it prob won't be there at the end of the year
  22. So assuming a 40% drop today, weekend should finish at $64.7m. I've got it making another $18.8m for the week, bringing week 2 (WIDE) total to $83.5m, just under a 37% drop week to week. However, if you strip out the Mondays where MLK was overinflated, the week to week drop is just over 30%. Using 30% weekly drops from here on in, it's on track for around a $415m total Just for fun, assuming it starts to hold even better at 25% weekly drops, we're looking at... wait for it...$470m
  23. Pleased to see Paddington doing well... Its a lovely little movie and deserves it. AS : no words. Looking at a sub 30% weekend drop now. After doubling the Jan OW record. If it keeps this pace up $400m is done. Will rework my spreadsheet (when I get out of bed)
  24. Well... not to the same amount that it seems to be in the US for sure. But then again, that's probably not a fair benchmark.
