  1. If I'd seen Rogue 1 without knowing anything about how much the movie had opened to I'd have been certain @Christmas Baumer's club would have succeeded. Even beyond not thinking the movie was particularly good, it just didn't strike me as something that would be as mainstream as it evidently is. I just have to accept I'm wildly out of step with the public mood on this one, but also that it's basically impossible overestimate Star Wars at this point.
  2. It's another Alien movie. They make some superficial connection to Prometheus with Fassbender but the poster tells you all you need to know.
  3. Hmm. So Passengers did ok in the weekdays and has now bombed at the weekend? I'll never quite get this whole box office thing.
  4. That trailer happened too fast. It's Alien: build up some atmosphere! That aside, all I ask from this movie is a basic cat-and-mouse horror setup on a confined space, and it looks like we'll be getting that.
  5. A few years ago if you'd watched a character in a movie see this trailer at the cinema you'd have thought it was a parody too far. We live in that world now.
  6. I'd be willing to bet my house there'll still be a shit-load of neon lights and garish advertising. But to be honest when you're complaining about a Blade Runner movie being gloomy, you might as well call it a day.
  7. I'm a Lynch fanatic but find Dune too much a slog to get through in one sitting. Although I'm surprised Villeneuve is doing this straight after BR 2049 I welcome it.
  8. Incidentally, is that number any good for Passengers? I'm atrocious at interpreting daily numbers.
  9. GTA V made a billion dollars upon release - I think the days of industry types not taking videogames seriously are over. The problem is simply a creative one. How do you fashion something that's popular because of its gameplay into something that's good without it?
  10. Given all that's gone down in 2016 she was just ahead of the curve. But, for fairness' sake, Grande has her own annoying quirks:
  11. I think of the original as 'the greatest boring movie ever made'. I don't bother recommending it to anyone but the most patient of friends. Even early 80s audiences who didn't have nearly as much ADD as today's viewers found it trying.
  12. I've never been so happy for a gigantic corporation!
  13. I mean at this point I assume the 'spoiler' we're talking around that's not really a spoiler because it apparently happens early in the movie but whatever has been kept away from trailers because there's no way it could be construed as romantic?
  14. This post is getting dangerously close to suggesting that the Phantom Menace is at all comparable to the obsessive, detailed richness of Zodiac. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. When the hype died down, TPM did not emotionally connect with people because there was nothing under the shiny bonnet.
  15. I agree, but I guess they're saving it (or haven't rendered them yet). As far as it goes the teaser seems to have gone down well, seen a few friends share it on Facebook this evening.
  16. That's kind of circular logic though, innit? Of course it's the brand that people are excited for — the studio knows this and has teased it accordingly.
  17. Dude, 95% of this forum said all of the promos looked shite. It's ok to say I told you so when it's true.
  18. 16%. I feel bad for Fassbender but, like Passengers, no-one can act surprised over this after that trailer.
  19. Why did Joy have a budget of 60m? I haven't seen it, but going by the trailer it looked like it should have cost half of that.
  20. This is a breakdown of all the differences, if you want to save yourself some time: http://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=4589
