  1. I was watching batman returns for the first time in a decade the other day and I was struck by just how much storytelling legwork Elfman's score does by having every single musical flourish line up with the actions onscreen. Obviously not every movie is going to be as operatic as burton's but man, some tight cues make so much difference.
  2. I've less than zero interest in Top Gun (aerial dogfights are anathema to me) but I think it'll do pretty well. The trailer was effective.
  3. To be fair it's got an imaginative director. If he wants to have some fun, which is how I'm interpreting this, no other MCU project would be preferable...
  4. I'm neutral on Gervais - there is something faintly grotesque about Hollywood award ceremonies, but he's still taking the money. To be honest anyone who can stomach watching these entire shows in one sitting is a braver soul than me.
  5. Just caught Skyfall while channel-hopping. A few problematic™ moments notwithstanding it's still a great film. Scenes are allowed to breath and the story is simple enough that you always know why people are where they are and doing what they're doing. It's crazy that's no longer a given for Bond.
  6. Looking forward to the Lost In La Mancha style documentary on the making of this.
  7. I... don't think the 20s will a good decade for Robert. Other than the residual checks.
  8. I'm seeing a lot of 'this was the most fun I had at the cinema in ages' takes. Feels like a Showgirls-type legacy in the making. Can anyone who's actually seen it confirm: is this so bad it's good, or is it just plain ol' bad?
  9. I was neutral on Craig. I get Johnson may have had a deliberately ridiculous, American version of Poirot in mind but I couldn't help thinking that just letting Craig do his normal (or even an English upper class) accent would have sufficed.
  10. Of course it's going to make a billion. It could be the crappiest thing ever but it's still the one that's following Endgame. It's like having the Superbowl as a lead-in.
  11. Craig definitely looks thinner there than he did before. Not that I'm about to feel sorry for a multi-million dollar movie star, but maintaining a buff physique for a decade and a half must be a real pain in the ass. Hugh Jackman must have been so relieved when he could eat normally again and not go to the gym for two hours a day.
  12. Let's not over-egg the 'KO was a genre-destroying deconstructionist parody' narrative. If anything its success will bolster interest in more whodunnits.
  13. I cant think of another actor this generation who consistently wastes as much goodwill as Idris Elba.
