Seeing Blackkklansman recently I immediately understood Nolan's faith in Washington - he has a very watchable, immediate presence. Nepotism ain't all bad.
The only reason I can see anyone wanting this film is if they believe Naughty Dog will never make another Uncharted game and this is the only fix of the franchise left to them.
Three was an twistedly excellent 3-part BBC production of this 5 years ago that rekindled massive interest in expensive Christie adaptations. I'd be surprised if this is any better but it certainly has star-power potential.
So I guess the new format for videogame adaptations is going to be the characters coming into our world, Roger Rabbit style? Seems to be the only one that's successful.
Just saw it. Yeah, it's a good film. There's nothing I can add that hasn't already been said, but it's certainly the most interesting Best Picture winner in a long time.
But did Justice Smith have a Jurassic Park t-shirt on and say how she 'admired' the grossly understaffed park from the first film in which 2 employees were brutally killed by security breaches? Nope.
Nah, at worst the JP3 characters were forgettable. Johnson's character, on the other hand, was nothing more than a vehicle for the JW writers to say how awful the film's own audience was for even wanting to see it.
I replayed the early Sonic games recently and was shocked to discover how bad they were. They actively punish you for going fast, which is its only USP. No wonder Mario won the war.
I quite like it, the minimalist moodiness is daring. Although I can probably put to bed any lingering hope this movie will be a 'fun' sendoff. It's a bit weird the Craig era didn't have a single great song.
After seeing David Copperfield the other week I'm starting to feel like Dev Patel has had the most interesting career of any male actor under 30 that I've seen in a long time. He's really good at picking projects.
This is definitely the least excited for a Bond film I've ever been, but that's ok. Having zero expectations for a movie before going in is probably the healthiest way to consume it. All I ask is that it doesn't get bogged down in bullshit and tells a simple story. The set pieces can be as wacky as they like, just keep the bits in between them coherent.
I mean... Lucy was crazy popular overseas; the rest of Johansson's success has been as part of the MCU machine. Which is also why this will get over a billion.
