  1. Bummed that We Know the Way got left out even if expected. The live performance would have been excellent. Gosling and Stone performances do have potential to be memorable in a different way though.
  2. Phew, glad to see Moana make it. Now marketing for the Sing Along can shill it as being nominated for Best Animated Feature and including Best Original Song nominee How Far I'll Go.
  3. Theatres: Pride & Prejudice & Zombies (what a stinker lol) At home: Batman: The Killing Joke (another stinker)
  4. Why not? Hugh Jackman as Wolverine has lasted for 17 years, hasn't he? Holland is much younger now than Jackman in 2000.
  5. The Rock definitely has pull but as I mentioned in the Shazam thread, Black Adam is one of Geoff Johns's favorite characters too. He has done a lot of work to flesh out the character from being a two-dimensional baddie and has transformed him into a tragic anti-hero who's been wronged and demonized by history way more than he deserved, and who is now struggling to clear his name. This was before the DCEU. It's a pretty good role for an actor of color like Dwayne and I can definitely believe Johns pushing for a Black Adam solo too. It's a much richer complex than the goofy and child-like Shazam (which does have its appeal too of course) and the mythical/god like imagery of Black Adam lends itself well to the Justice League pantheon of God like beings. Some folks are kind of having a knee-jerk reaction for no reason (I mean, the film may totally suck but not because it simply has Black Adam as the lead instead of Shazam). WB/DC are allowed to tweak and evolve their schedule based on the latest developments instead of stringently following their initial plan as if it were set in stone.
  6. Geoff Johns and David Goyer in particular have redefined the character in the last decade to be a more "tragic anti-hero" figure. I suspect Johns is the biggest reason Rock convinced WB to make BA a solo lead.
  7. Your exact words were "until they're done with the MCU series" in your previous post.
  8. Black Adam has evolved into a Magneto-esque grey-shaded character in the comics, so it isn't that big a deal.
  9. 20/20 hindsight, GotG had an army of detractors pre-release too. A space movie with aliens? A tree and a raccoon?! Marvel is really pushing its luck here. At least Black Adam fits well with the "Gods Among Us" approach the DCEU has taken with the DC superheroes like Superman, Wonder Woman and well, BatGod.
  10. Yeah one problem. MCU Spidey just made his debut and given Holland's age, they could get at least 10-15 years' worth movies featuring him. Who's gonna wait until 2035 for this?
  11. My favorite take on the character was the gender swapped version from The New Batman Adventures, a model past her shelf life gone rogue.
  12. I doubt anyone counts that as SH And BvS didn't underperform because of "oversaturation". Apocalypse is a tricky one. While it's true it was the fourth SH film in a span of a little over 3 months, Fox also made the hilarious blunder of lifting the embargo for critics weeks before the movie release, letting the rotten score percolate and dampen the hype.
  13. New Mutants to film simultaneously with Apocalypse sequel in Montreal this spring? A couple of days ago Production Weekly listed "X-Men: The New Mutants" and a second production titled "X-Men: Supernova" as filming in 2017. X-Men fanbases mused Supernova to be the X-Men in space film that was rumored to be the sequel to Apocalypse. Now this report claims that X-Men 7 may begin shooting just a month after production begins for New Mutants on the same lot.
  14. I didn't get all the hate for him because pre-Godzilla I only saw him in Kick-Ass and he really sold the character there. That moment where he sees his battered face in the mirror and feels pride probably for the first time in his life is amazing.
  15. Dredd is the reason I won't be shocked if this is good too despite the abysmal marketing leading to a now increasingly inevitable BO bombing.
  16. Who is this nobody and why do people keep giving her social media attention? Is she Faux News's replacement droid for Megyn Kelly or something?
  17. GOT fanbase is spoiled silly with the Emmy wins and at this point it is a cultural behemoth so it makes no difference. Not surprised at the desperately validation seeking Westworld and Stranger Things fanbases acting up though. #staythirsting
  18. Moana is/will probably continue to be hurt by Sing. No other WDAS musical had to contend with a rival animated musical in this way. Sing OTOH... I'm not so sure. I don't see it being bigger in summer as it seems more of a "holiday season" type of movie. I don't know how much bigger it would be without Moana around though. There isn't much precedence for incredibly successful non-Disney animated musicals.
  19. I had an interesting discussion with my colleague who is originally from Kochi about why larger Indian audiences scoff at Star Wars as being "too silly" but LOVE other nerdy properties like superheroes, HP etc. She said superheroes are basically modern takes on gods which connects with a society where mythology is such a strong part of the culture. And she said aspects of Potter reminded folks of their own Anglo dormitory/convent school upbringing and also that the books really caught on as well. The other successful blockbusters belong to incredibly universal genres like force of nature (Jurassic Park/World, Anaconda, 2012) or straight up rollicking actioners like Fast & Furious. Her take was that Star Wars fell in a weird place where it was "too geeky" and felt too foreign, without overtly universal hooks like those present in superhero, Potter movies etc.
