  1. HTTYD2 has all the makings of a great movie, and yet the final result doesn't leave much of a lasting impact. Is it because the movie doesn't spend much time exploring one single element in depth and instead spends time juggling several and doesn't quite do full justice to any of them?
  2. Jennifer Lee was a great choice to tackle these themes. And now I'm sure DuVernay will be excellent in bringing out the poignancy and heartfelt nature of the story (especially after the news that it was she who advised they focus on Rey's facial expressions during the climactic battle in TFA to add in the intimacy and raw emotionality that really elevated that sequence).
  3. For all we know, they must have gone Transformers. We still haven't seen what Megatron (that's what the assembled bot is called right?), the individual ships and final battle monster look like, let alone seen them in motion. Chronicle in the first two acts and Transformers in the final one is a good look for this, I think.
  4. If they cast Denzel or Whitaker as the KFC Colonel then protests gonna reach "Jesus is white! Sacrilege!" levels.
  5. Not if Trolls is as bad as reviews suggest and WOM includes, "Just watch Storks instead!"
  6. Not bad for Alice considering the looming spectre of the Burton/Depp mediocrities. I don't know why I haven't gotten around to watching Porco Rosso yet. I'll give it a shot after seeing all this display of love.
  7. Of Satoshi Kon's four features, Tokyo Godfathers is the Heart, Paprika the Mind, Perfect Blue the Shadow and Millennium Actress the Soul. One of the incredibly few films to move me so deeply. And as beautiful and profound as Actress is, the music by Hirasawa Susumu takes it to another plane altogether:
  8. I will be genuinely surprised if it is anything other than The Lion King, and I don't get surprised a lot. At least not genuinely.
  9. Yay I'm super rooting for this now that it has got Landis's diapers in a bunch. Go Go Power Rangers.
  10. And the lacklustre marketing tampered enthusiasm heading towards the reviews.
  11. It was super adorable and full of Sandbergian likeable goofy. The magic of low expectations.
  12. I guess fun is one way of describing the series of disturbing melting face expressions.
  13. I hope it's not. Those two could be big draws OS (in Becky G's case, even domestic). At least the Die Loser! and Rita parts promised some emphasis on Trini.
  14. True that BatB is a major obstacle, to put it lightly. But still, if Frozen and Catching Fire could coexist... (and this doesn't have to do anywhere close to CF to be considered a success, though Liz Banks won't hurt provided future marketing builds her up). Regarding the female characters, I've been seeing an active push recently to highlight Kimberly. She has her own spin-off comic which is apparently incredibly fun in the vein of Supergirl. And a lot of the social media activity for the trailer and posters has been coming from teen girls and young women. Too early to make a call on how it will land with those demographics, but Lionsgate could do with catering to them a bit more with further marketing. They also need to play up Ludi Lin.
  15. Manohla Dargis spilling some major tea at the expense of American animators in that trailer quote there. @Nutella of Arabia would be proud.
  16. It's a Satoshi Kon movie. I've seen him described as the Marlowe to Miyazaki's Shakespeare and I would concur with that sentiment. More on him later. Also @Rey I need you to watch this movie. You're welcome.
  17. Bianca and Bernard are pretty charming but The Rescuers Down Under is incredibly superior than its predecessor in every manner imaginable.
  18. So William Joyce is basically the prose writer equivalent of Guillermo Del Toro and Dan Slott?
  19. Here for Ms. Pfeiffer playing Mrs. Hubbard (though some of the other castings are solid too) Want a new star-studded remake just for the possibility of Emma Stone playing Vera Claythorne (preferably with original ending)
  20. True. Some of the estimates thrown around were crazy considering even Dark Shadows opened to just 29M. In summer.
