REVISED Weekend Estimates 6/14--6/16: Man of Steel OW $116.7M($128.7M including WM)

Recommended Posts

BOM is reporting the 12m figure as a Thursday gross, so the weekend's going to be awfully complicated. I'm anticipating 38m today (47m for Friday total), 40m Saturday, and 36m Sunday for a 135m 3.5-day total. Which would be an amazing start.

So MOS is going to increase 40% from Friday day business?

Point is they dont necessarily need to make profit by reselling the tickets, though having stores does make them less suspicious for buying millions tickets from movie studios.

It could simply be a dirty accounting within WM or a dirty exchange between WM and WB or maybe just some kind of bribery ... who knows.

Dirty accounting? Bribery? What on earth are you talking about?

I'm glad they are splitting it out, but I wish Mr. Subers showed some fucking backbone when other movies did the same type of shit.

Because those studios never separated their earlier numbers from their midnights. WB clearly came out and said we made x amount from 7pms. Subers is only stating what he's given, If other studios did the same, he would have subtracted those numbers as well.

They didn't.  That's the point.  You're creating biased data if two separate ways of reporting determine what a film is grossing during the same time frame.  If we say Iron Man 3 made 68 million OD and MoS makes 12 million on Thursday and 40 million on Friday then the system is flawed.  And I don't see why BOM can't regulate that so that there's a standard for their own site.

Speaking of biased data, you realise that MOS Thursday tickets were "sold" differently than every other movie ever, right? Right? Isn't that why WB themselves chose to report the numbers separately?

If ever there was a number that needed to be separated, this is it.

Like i said, I'll wait until Sunday.Lots of excitement going round and people aren't thinking clearly.Few things I'm trying to understand:1. Were all the $12M tickets for the corporate sale for previews only? If they weren't,isn't possible that some of the people that got the tickets in the sale are already part of the $9M midnight showings?

The Walmart tickets were pretty much all for 7pm Thursday, and tickets sold were only good for specific theaters. (There may have been a few other odd showtimes floating around out there, but it was generally 7pm only.)

The only "if" is that "if" a ticket is sold for a showtime before midnight, it should never be counted as part of Friday or the weekend gross. But unfortunately that's the way it is in Hollywood now.
