FRIDAY 4 PM: Here are my first grosses because the Thursday late shows and Friday midnight totals weren’t significant for either newcomers Twentieth Century Fox’s The Heat or Sony Pictures’ White House Down. Fandango reports that the Melissa McCarthy-Sandra Bullock pic is the #1 ticketseller among new releases, selling 50% more advance tickets than at the same time for director Paul Feig’s previous hit Bridesmaids. Based on late show and matinee trends today, my sources say this weekend’s Pre-Fourth Of July domestic box office looks like this right now. Updates and analysis to follow:

1. The Heat (Fox) NEW [Runs 3,181] REstimated Friday $13M-16M, Est Weekend $35M-$30M

Can’t help pointing out that the women brought the heat for this $41M-budget buddy comedy. Chalk up another strong box office performance for Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock who began with $1M from Thursday’s 10 PM shows and Friday’s midnights. Should end #2 for the weekend behind Pixar’s family fare.

2. Monsters University 3D (Pixar/Disney) Week 2 [Runs 4,004] GEstimated Friday $13M-$16M, Est Weekend $45M-$55M, Est Cume $170M-$180M

Great hold. Should jump into #1 after the Saturday kiddie bump.

3. World War Z 3D (Paramount) Week 2 [Runs 3,607] PG13Estimated Friday $10M-$12M (-60%), Est Weekend $33M-$36M, Est Cume $127M-$130M

After last week’s surprise success, new audiences will check it out.

4. White House Down (Sony) NEW [Runs 3,222]Estimated Friday $9M-11M, Est Weekend $25M-$30M

This expectedly puts the Channing Tatum-Jamie Foxx pic’s grosses right around Olympus Has Fallen which had a similar plot. Pic did $1.35M in Thursday late shows/Friday midnights. Studio claims budget was around $150M. Pic opens day and date in about two dozen small countries this weekend (ie Aruba, Ethiopia, Kenya, Iraq). The first major international territory will not open until mid-July.

5. Man Of Steel 3D (:egendary/Warner Bros) Week 3 [Runs 4,131]Estimated Friday $6M-$9M, Weekend $19M-$25M, Est Cume $247M-$232M

Lots of box office competition right now continuing into the Fourth Of July holiday.

And it's funny how so many people knew WHD was going to "flop" now. If you go to the summer game predictions, it looks like almost everyone had WHD in their summer top 15 and the average prediction looks to be about 150 mill.

Not all of us hmmm maybe I shouldn't have dropped out of the game haha.
