Avengers - Infinity War Creates History With Advance

Avengers - Infinity War is looking to set the box office on fire initially as it takes one of the biggest advances of all time and that is not just for Hollywood films in India but Hindi films also. The advance pace of the film till Tuesday close of business is second only to Bahubali - The Conclusion.

 

 

The number of tickets sold may not be second best but the nett gross advances till Tuesday evening beat every single outright Hindi film including Tiger Zinda Hai, Sultan and Dangal which were all holiday releases. It remains to be seen where it ends by Thursday evening but if gets into second place it will be shocking as the two top advances will be non Hindi releases.

 

 

This has never happened in the history of Indian cinema where Hindi cinema has ruled the roost and now we may have to witness that the biggest pre release craze is a Telegu and Hollywood release.

 

 

There was a teaser released of a big film Sanju which was labelled a blockbuster by the media and trade and it could well become a blockbuster, time will tell but the teaser was definitely not blockbuster material. While this bumping up a teaser was going on by the usual circus which does not matter in the final picture, the ground reality was that a foreign film was making inroads where it does matter and that is with the public who are snapping up tickets like there is no tomorrow.

 

 

Avengers - Infinity War is releasing on around 2000 screens and that is not the biggest release but if this rate of advance continues on Wednesday and Thursday then it will no surprise if it takes the biggest opening of the year despite a release in terms of screens which is far less than a big Hindi film.

 

 

There are two days to go for the advance and it could slow as so many tickets have been sold already. It is a surprise that the film is ahead of the likes of Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai till now and it will be bigger surprise if it finishes ahead of these films on Thursday evening but the possibility is there.

The fourth IMAX has yet to release times and start prebooking. Pretty sure every IMAX show is gonna be completely sold out for the weekend. No hollywood movie has ever come close to this level of presales and hype ever. The amount of shows available is on par with big bollywood releases and even the non imax shows are selling incredibly well. I think presales are as good as or even better than any local blockbuster except Bahubali 2

Hard to tell as that data is not easily available but the top 3 are all Indian movies. But the top hollywood openings have to be 

 

Jungle Book - $11.6

Fate of the Furious - $10.6

Furious 7 - $10.5

Age of Ultron - ??

 

Probably in that order. Note that the figure are estimates by me based on news article so they may be off. 

 

It is unlikely IW will be in the top 3 all time openings. Although IW will be huge in the cities but hollywood movies are weak in small cities and virtually inexistent in towns and villages where local movies are quite strong. But it is not impossible.

They don't have much competition and all the other viable competition is in their 3rd/2nd frame and IW has shows alloted on par on of the local movies from the big wigs.

 

With just 2000 screen I'm being a bit apprehensive but seeing the pre-sales raking in at such fast pace It might do >$15mill in just 2.5 days and $17-$18 mill OW just might be a possibility.

The biggest Hollywood film of the year, Avengers: Infinity War is set to release on approximately 2100 screens in India, thereby being one of the widest release of all time for a Disney/Marvel film. The producers are screening the film only at Cinema Halls that are equipped with the DCI technology, which has restricted it from making optimum utilization of the screens in India. While the film is releasing all across in all major multiplex chains, it is the B and C centres where the film is not releasing on all screens.

 

The tickets have been selling like hot cakes and the IMAX properties across India have been booked in advance for the entire weekend. Even at premium multiplexes like PVR, INOX and Cinepolis, the prime-time shows have been sold out for the weekend, and the film is expected to record a unheard occupancy over the weekend.

 

In Mumbai, prime properties like, PVR Juhu, Cinepolis Thane, PVR Andheri West, Inox Ghatkopar and Cinepolis Andheri West are expected to record 90% plus occupancy on the opening day, which would be a record of sorts. Like is the scenario in Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Bangalore. The ticket rates of the film have been hiked and as per the limited sample size analysed, they are higher than Baahubali 2, Tiger Zinda Hai andPadmaavat.

 

Despite the limited screen size, the film is looking to start at around Rs 25 crore (Nett) in India, thereby emerging the biggest Hollywood opener of all time. The numbers can be higher; however, all depends on the total show count and the capacity in terms of turnover of the 2100 screens on which the film is releasing.
