what will be top 5 in 2023. Any movie like RRR or KGF2 breaking out big?

The big pan India film is Salaar. Stars Baahubali actor, directed by KGF director. It is also rumored to be in KGF universe.

Other than that Tiger 3, Jawaan, Dunki and Pathaan are big Bollywood films. From South India PS2 and Vijay's 67th film.

Lot of universes/franchises

Tiger 3 and Pathaan are from YRF Spy Universe.
Vijay's 67 is rumored to be in Lokesh's universe

PS2 is sequel to PS1.

Disney reporting is always frustrating.

They are reporting ₹361cr NETT for Avatar 2 in Indian trade. That should be around ₹445cr GROSS, but they are reporting ₹462cr for that.

Avengers: Endgame reported NETT is ₹368cr, GROSS should be ₹448cr, but they reported ₹438cr for that one.

Isn't GST on movie ticket 28%? 361+28%= 462

Not really, Avatar has bigger ratio in TN and Kerala which has higher tax, otherwise taxes are same.

No its 18% on tickets above ₹100, which is like all of them. Some states have local taxes and add service charge to films. The overall tax come around 20-24% depending on where a film is doing more.

July, 2017

GST on movie tickets costing up to ₹100 was reduced to 18%  & Tickets over ₹100 will now attract 27% GST~

December, 2018 (31st GST Council)

GST on movie tickets costing up to ₹100 was reduced to 12% from 18%; tickets over ₹ 100 will now attract 18% GST against 28% earlier.

GROSS is 18% higher than NETT in almost all Indian states, except

1. Gujarat - There is a "upto" ₹25 service charge on every ticket. So say a ticket is ₹150 NETT + ₹25 service charge + ₹27 (18% of ₹150) = ₹202 that works around 34.5%. % changes since ₹25 is a fixed amount. On a ₹300 Nett ticket, it will be only 26%.

2. Maharashtra - Service charge is ₹9.

3. Tamil Nadu - Additional to GST, there is 8% Local Tax on Tamil Films, 20% on other languages. So for English/Hindi/etc films, total tax is 38% while for Tamil films its 26%.

4. Kerala - Every ticket has ₹5 Cess, 8.5% Entertainment tax and 18% is charged on (Nett+Cess+E Tax).

5. West Bengal - Service charge is ₹5

One thing I'm noticing about Naatu Naatu compared to Jai Ho is that Indians seem to be having a genuine sense of ownership with this one. With Jai Ho, everyone was happy for AR Rahman but the song is still not considered Indian by most people. It will barely even come up in conversation of Rahman's work.

Here, it's an out and out Indian song for a movie directed by a guy who is the embodiment of Indian filmmaking.

Nah, It's because of the movie.

Jai Ho is big, but unlike Slumdog Millionaire, RRR is Indian movie, directed by Indian, starring Indians and a very much loved movie in India. and first time Indian movie has give global like that.

Not only Slumdog Millionaire wasn't an Indian movie, it's not even a hit movie here.

Some of these idiots just want attention and some just seem to blindly hate anything related to Bollywood.

It sometimes works for net positively as lot of buzz is generated from the controversy.

Pathan created massive amount of passive promotion through this , just not in the way producers expected..
