12 Years A Slave is to slavery movies what Schindler's List is to Holocaust movies- uncompromisingly brutal and raw, incredibly well made, and absolutely awe inspiring. Well deserving of every win. That said, it's my favorite movie of the year so far, and even I think it'll be boring if it sweeps, so I can imagine how everyone else feels (though NBR, NYCC, and LAFCC are the majors, and it didn't win any of those).

I didn't want to start a separate post because I thought it might fit in here.  But for the last few years Metacritic has compiled many of the major film critics and publications ten best films of the year.  It's a feature I've always liked.
