Weekend Estimates: The Lego Movie - 31.5M | 3 Days to Kill - 12.3M | Pompeii - 10M

Recommended Posts

Weekend Box Office: #1 still 'Lego' (WB - very wide 3890 runs) with $31.8M and cume $183.5M to murder '3 Days To Kill' and bury 'Pompeii'.

Weekend Box Office: #2 Kevin Costner-starring '3 Days To Kill' (Relativity - 2872 runs) for weak $12.5M. Moviegoers seem sick of actioners.

Looks at the movies being released next week, notices non-stop.

Well played Nikki, well played.

36% drop for Lego is great considering last Friday was inflated. Could have 4 #1 weekends if it drops sub-30% next week. Even a 30% drop would take it to 22.5m. The Grey and Unknown both opened to <22m.

Thanks to the "what was number one when you were born" thread I've been checking through to see how many different films held #1 each year.

The 60s saw from 23-31 films hold the top spot each year, but starting in 69, it dropped precipitously. In fact, only 15 films held #1 that year, which is a record low.

It stayed rather low (high teens or low 20s) for about 2 decades, but starting in about 1988 it's been trending generally upwards. 2009 holds the record with 43 different films in the top spot.
