Recommended Posts

Looks legit.  They have the $$, production, and distribution all lined up.

[*]This is not a specialty or niche studio.  This is another Warner Bros, 20th Cent Fox, Universal, you get the point. [*]Still unnamed. [*]Will start with roughly $40m budgeted films ($35 mil in advertising). [*]China is a major investor.   [*]First films are scheduled for 2015

Forgive my ignorance on the topic, but how can a group just come in and claim to be a major studio? Especially when Lionsgate is extremely successful now and has made more money in the past couple years than some of the main 6 studios. How does the system work?

Studios grow over time. They can't come out of nowhere.

Remember Dreamworks? They're now relying on the big studios for distribution and marketing. So if Spielberg, Katzenberg and Geffen couldn't make it work, then what the hell does China know about setting up a major Hollywood studio?

I'm very skeptical.

They have the money backing. Lionsgate does not a money flow. WB, Dinsey, Columbia, Paramount, Fox and Universal. All own by bigger companies that are some largest in the world.

I fail to see how this will be bad thing so I welcome it.A new major studio to shake things up would be nice, plus is Lionsgate can get some more money making movies besides just the Hunger Games that'll make it more interesting

They have some big names backing it but I will wait to hear any actual project announcements before getting excited. I will say though that they have the right idea with these $20-60 million movies as I am a big proponent of mid-budget movies. BTW, Jeff Robinov is getting back in the business with his production company as well and he looks set to make a deal with Sony Pictures. I am actually more excited about Robinov because he is the guy who greenlit movies like Gravity, Argo and others while at Warners.
