Part of me wonders if Jimmy Cameron revisits Avatar’s original source for inspiration for this movie

You know, what I think will happen when Avatar 2 releases, is that once people re-enter Pandora  and begin to see the grand narrative which James has envisioned, and experience a completely different story which is equally as satisfying as Avatar, all these talks about Ferngully, Dance with the wolves, and Pocahontas will soon disappear.

In fact, there's an actual example of this. Remember when Hunger Games was first released and all those talk about it copying Battle Royale? By the time the franchise ended, no one was saying that anymore. The comparison has gotten tired and people moved away from it. The hunger games movies weren't even that good.

James made comments about Wonder Woman, gotten a lot of people angry, then he made some comments about Avengers, gotten a lot of people angry. Now there are some people who are angry at his 2001: ASO comment, which he claimed he loved.

Whenever he makes these comments on interviews they become the center of attention,  people are clearly inclined to listen to what James has to say, especially the haters.

Honestly people don't seem to realise he could release a steaming turd as Avatar 2 (impossible by the way) and it would still gross gangbusters from name recognition of James Cameron and Avatar alone.

Reddit's movie forum. They're all totally out of touch with reality.

Ah yeah, there's no shame in not having a clue about box office it's kind of a specialist thing. Glad it wasn't the boxoffice forum on reddit

I think that we will see Avatar be beaten soon by Avengers :)

Then maybe in 2020 we will see how good Avatar 2 is and see if can retake the crown!

Still 2 Billion to go and you're calling it a win.... Jesus.

I suppose if IW part 1 makes over $2b that IW part 2 has a fighting chance at Avatar WW, don't see that happening though.

Infinity War part 1 first has to make $2b.

Reading the internet you'd think Avatar had been erased from history and IW had made $4B already.

Then again these are the same people who called BP a phenomenon (that couldn't even reach 0.5A)

If China delivers as it seems, it will. And I do not rule out to reach TFA. To talk about Titanic is still early but definitely not impossible.

They're expecting crazy legs for some reason, I'll have to see em' to believe em'. Here's food for though, TLJ+BP is less than 1A.

To beat Titanic after 20+ years really would be an insane achievement... and still there would be a half a billion gulf left to cover to beat Avatar. That's what we're talking about here.

Every dollar that IW makes over TLJ is another tear down my face. The SW I knew really is dead.

I've been thinking that Infinity Wars success might be good for Jim, people still going to the cinema in their droves getting warmed up for Avatar.

On the one hand true, but on the other, if this kind of hyper-gonadal man on man sterile action that we're seeing is what is pulling people to the theatre A2 might be in trouble.

Presales are at the same level than Furious 8, which would have done $425m with current ER. That is what has changed. It is exploding.

disagree it will do that, if people are going out in hordes to see something like that. Their puny minds (excuse hulk pun) will be blown when they watch Avatar 2 and the wom will be astronomical.

Gives me some hope A2 can really go crazy in China.

I'll take your word for it. Hopefully the MCU is still only 2 Quadrant film making.

Titanic will remain to be the most impressive run WW ever. No matters if some films start to outgross it in unadjusted figures. Nothing gets close to it. Not even Avatar.

Concerning Avatar, with current ERs (not applying inflation), it would have done today about $2.47b, not $2.79b.
