CA2: $10.2m Thursday Night (beats Thor2's $7.1m) | $100m+ coming?

I am just saying film snobs say comic book films are trash for simplistic people. However many Oscar films are nothing special and are only praised because they have certain actors in them or they have sort of message. As 2012 clearly showed us the most popular movies of the year are sometimes the best ones.

I disagree with that.

The Master and Holy Motors did did not do well in America.

Batman, Spider-Man 2 and TDK right?

Yes unless I am missing some small comic book movie So Burton won the first Oscar for a comic book movie. He gets rare credit for what has done for the genre.  I am not trying to hate on the genre but I thought more comic book movies would have won tech awards.

My point is people can watch what they want.If people want to see films about the metaphysical meaning of life or see transformers blow things up.Just remember some people like watching both.

Hollywood aims a huge percentage of its budgets and focus on basically the 12-25 demo. If you're in it, great! If not, it's kinda slim pickings for a lot of the year.

Look, it's not like I hate genre movies or action movies or whatever. It's just that, from a movie standpoint, I can't remember the last time I was shocked or stunned or surprised by anything in CBMs.

Not possible everything is black and white

You like MCU or Nolan

You like Star Wars or Star Trek

You Twilight or Harry Potter

You like Michael Bay or P.T. Anderson

I am sorry that you are in your 80s and the nursing home only takes to see CMB or blockbuster since that is what the staff wants to see.

You can't blame Hollywood. For every original film like gravity that becomes a huge hit many others flop. Also its very unpredictable ...So as a student of finance I can see why they make sequels to ensure steady cashflow. If they really like an idea they try to make a new idea into film.

(In bold): That's often because studios greenlight films that shouldn't be greenlit, and/or they don't allow for as much creative control as they should. Original movies don't bomb inherently, just as franchise movies don't succeed inherently.

Movies are a business, so franchises are naturally part of that. But they don't have to be the driving force. Hollywood survived for decades without the over-reliance it now has on them.

Look, it's not like I hate genre movies or action movies or whatever. It's just that, from a movie standpoint, I can't remember the last time I was shocked or stunned or surprised by anything in CBMs.

That surprised you and you know it... GEEZER!

I can't believe that was nearly 6 years ago. God, now I feel like a geezer.

2012 was a year where films like skyfall,ta,tdkr life of pi reigned at the box office and it was a delight to lovers of cinema as well.

There are runs and streaks occasionally. But even here, the fact that you're using a Bond film as evidence of some sort of variety is kinda funny. :) Even more telling is despite the big successes of many mid-budget, adult-oriented movies, studios refuse to actually make them, and rely on the occasional outside producer to do it.

Hollywood aims a huge percentage of its budgets and focus on basically the 12-25 demo. If you're in it, great! If not, it's kinda slim pickings for a lot of the year.

Ledger's performance was every bit as stunning as anything DDL or others have done in the last 20 years.

Hollywood runs on fear. Absolutely. Execs used to bank on producing, directing, and acting talent. Now they do not -- they bank on "name recognition".
