kayumanggi
BOSTON MARATHON FILM “STRONGER” ADDS TATIANA MASLANY http://www.tracking-board.com/boston-marathon-film-stronger-adds-tatiana-maslany/ Tatiana Maslany’s star is rising fast. After being on the shortlist for the lead in Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII, she has been approached to star opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in the David Gordon Green directed Stronger. The film is based on the real-life events of the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing from the perspective of Jeff Bauman (Gyllenhaal), who was injured in the attack and critical in identifying the bomber. Maslany will play Bauman’s girlfriend who was running in the race. The script was adapted by John Pollono from the book of the same name, written by Jeff Bauman and Brett Witter. WrathOfHan
lol, is Lionsgate seriously releasing to Boston Marathon films within a year of each other? Can we also please stop using RISE UP?
filmlover
Didn't the real couple portrayed in this movie get divorced recently? Awkward! This is gonna flop even with good reviews. Patriots Day tanked despite having a lot in its favor (solid reviews, a release similar to previous "Amurica!" hits, Marky Mark's starpower), and this has to deal with a packed fall slate. That One Girl
Rated R for language throughout, some graphic injury images, and brief sexuality/nudity.
SLAM!
Should this be in the main thread?
Bishop54
Guys can we get this moved to the main page please? Anyways: Maslany's performance resembles Amy Adams' in "The Fighter," who also played an outsider trying to fit in with the dysfunctional Ward family as she falls for boxer "Irish" Micky Wars (Mark Wahlberg). The role garnered Adams a best supporting actress nomination. Maslany is worthy of the same attention.
filmlover
Yeah @Squadron Leader Tele @CJohn this can be moved now. Currently sitting at 100% on RT, but I doubt it'll make a difference. The demand to see movies about or centered around the Boston Marathon bombing is very low. I agree with this because it is coming out very soon, and I just don't see it jumping onto peoples' radars. This film seems to have extremely quite buzz, so even if it does deserve it, we'll just have to see how it does in limited release for it to be released in more broad of a manner. Limited-release-in-the-hopes-of-going-semi-wide competition includes Battle if the Sexes and Victoria & Abdul, so this film has am uphill battle. But if it is as good of a film as critics are saying, I'm rooting for it to succeed.

The movie's at best going to be an acting play, so there's no need to platform it.

I'd like to ask you a question: how can you tell if a platform release will definitely be expanding into more theaters? What kind of factors are at play? How can you tell that A24, for example, will decide to give Platform Release A a wider theater count than Platform Release B?

Depends on different variables (reviews, awards buzz, starpower in some cases).
