Box Office.com's Top 100 films of All Time (2014 edition)- List Complete! Everyone is Disappointed!

Recommended Posts

Okay, now you forced me to double check, 12 Angry Men has no less than 14 votes (it has more but I didn't bother checking further and some lists were sent via PMs) and films at the bottom of the list entered with 7. Some of the votes are very high too. I believe the last laugh shall be mine :D

Now we just have to wait 20 more days for Ruk to deliver :P

7. Inception

8. Return of the King

If you don't want to know, don't open the spoiler. I'm just posting this so that I can see how good my prediction was (or bad).

If SW wins this I'll be pissed.

10. Inception (2010) 45 points- 17 votes

"They say we only use a fraction of our brain's true potential. Now that's when we're awake. When we're asleep, we can do almost anything."

inception_xlg.jpg

Dom Cobb is a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb's rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible-inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming.

Trivia: The role of Arthur was originally meant for Heath Ledger before his untimely death.

"Ugh. Okay, from now on none of you are allowed to claim that this forum has any kind of bias against Nolan.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go and drink a whole bottle of carpet cleaner. It's the only thing that'll help.

Also, BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!"

9. Jurassic Park (1993) 45 points- 19 votes

"Hold on to your butts."

Huge advancements in scientific technology have enabled a mogul to create an island full of living dinosaurs. John Hammond has invited four individuals, along with his two grandchildren, to join him at Jurassic Park. But will everything go to plan? Especially when one of the parks' own workers attempts to steal the dinosaur embryos, and has to shut down critical security systems in the process. It's now a race for survival with dangerous creatures roaming all over the island.

Trivia: The T-rex occasionally malfunctioned, due to the rain. Producer Kathleen Kennedy recalls, "The T. rex went into the heebie-jeebies sometimes. Scared the crap out of us. We'd be, like, eating lunch, and all of a sudden a T-rex would come alive. At first we didn't know what was happening, and then we realized it was the rain. You'd hear people start screaming."

"Now that's more like it. One of Spielberg's many many masterpieces and one of the frontrunners when it came to using CGI, Jurassic Park still holds up incredibly well today. Sure there are a few dodgy effects but the T-Rex looks amazing. The characters are (mostly) likeable and it can be surprisingly terrifying for a so called family film. Especially the Velociraptors. Is it any wonder that this film cemented them in public consciousness?

While the sequels have been of mixed quality (and I shall avoid elaborating further for the sake of certain forumnites) there's no deny Jurassic Park is a true classic."

8. 12 Angry Men (1957) 46 points- 17 votes

"Well, I'm not used to supposin'. I'm just a workin' man. My boss does all the supposin', but I'll try one. Supposin' you talk us all out of this, and, uh, the kid really did knife his father?"

12-angry-men-pic-1.jpg

The defense and the prosecution have rested and the jury is filing into the jury room to decide if a young Spanish-American is guilty or innocent of murdering his father. What begins as an open and shut case of murder soon becomes a mini-drama of each of the jurors' prejudices and preconceptions about the trial, the accused, and each other. Based on the play, all of the action takes place on the stage of the jury room.

Trivia: As the film failed to make a profit, Henry Fonda never received his deferred salary. Despite this setback, Fonda always regarded 12 Angry Men (1957) as one of the three best films he ever made, the other two being The Grapes of Wrath (1940) and The Ox-Bow Incident (1943).

"Alright, this almost makes me forgive you guys for constantly overrating Nolan's crap. Almost.

My favourite non-animated film of all time, 12 Angry Men doesn't have much on paper. There's no action, romance, anything like that. It's just 12 guys in a room (and a small bathroom) talking. But my god do they make it work. Each of those 12 men has such a distinct personality thanks to both the physical performances of their actors and the world-class writing provided. Lumet's directing successfully manages to show off each actor while creating a perfect sense of claustrophobia and squeezing every drop of drama from the scenario. And it has a fantastic moral lesson as well of 'Innocent until Proven Guilty' which is just as relevant nowadays as it was back then, if not more so. And, intriguingly, it leaves whether the boy truly is innocent completely ambiguous right to the end, adding a pleasant mix of grey to the proceedings.

Honestly, I could gush about this movie more than any other film on this list but I've got stuff I should be doing tonight so I'll leave it there. But it's nice to have an inclusion I have absolutely no argument against."

7. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) 51.3 points- 20 votes

"You cannot pass! I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the Flame of Anor. The dark fire will not avail you, Flame of Udun! Go back to the shadow. You shall not pass!"

lord_of_the_rings_the_fellowship_of_the_

An ancient Ring thought lost for centuries has been found, and through a strange twist in fate has been given to a small Hobbit named Frodo. When Gandalf discovers the Ring is in fact the One Ring of the Dark Lord Sauron, Frodo must make an epic quest to the Cracks of Doom in order to destroy it! However he does not go alone. He is joined by Gandalf, Legolas the elf, Gimli the Dwarf, Aragorn, Boromir and his three Hobbit friends Merry, Pippin and Samwise. Through mountains, snow, darkness, forests, rivers and plains, facing evil and danger at every corner the Fellowship of the Ring must go. Their quest to destroy the One Ring is the only hope for the end of the Dark Lords reign!

Trivia: Peter Jackson gave one of the rings used in the movies to both Elijah Wood and Andy Serkis as gift when the shoot was finished. They both thought they had the only one.

"*sigh* Can't I just go back to talking about 12 Angry Men?

Now, before people take that the wrong way, I should say I really do like this film (and the other two films in the trilogy) a lot and don't have any real issue with it being in the Top 10 (unlike certain other films I could care to mention). But it's difficult to write comments for because I just don't have much to say about it other than 'it's all good'. Because it is all good. It's a very good film. And good for it. Ruk out."

(God, I'm not looking forward to writing up ROTK's comments....)
