The Dark Alfred
End of August is film cemetery, awful release date. September is better. Kingsman might hurt a litrle but we'll see what reaction it gets, could be frontloaded given its a sequel.
John Rambo
https://twitter.com/sunriseon7/status/899060114774044673 some australian channel has given 4/5 for American Made and 2.5/5 for The Dark Tower!
John Rambo
American Made has released in Taiwan. I wonder how much can this do OW since this is one of Cruise Strongholds.
HesAPooka
Very much enjoyed Doug Liman's breezy American Made, a movie in which Tom Cruise plays this man. #printthelegend pic.twitter.com/R5E6Ba3eMo — Chris Hewitt (@ChrisHewitt) August 20, 2017
Alli
That metascore is worrying. i fell like this movie is trying to imitate scorsese, but we've seen this type of movie too many times before and probably done better like Wolf of wall street., American Hustle. recently it reminds me of War Dogs. I think people are tired of this type of story, its not very original. I predict mediocre reviews and box office.
The Dark Alfred
I don't know how a Wall St film relates to a drug trafficing story. It is original, because it did happen. Film looks like a fun ride with the lead actor having a blast, just like MM did with Gold. You're right, it's not gonna set box office records for sure. Alli
It's based on a true story where the character goes from poor to rich by doing illegal stuff and it's presented with comedic touches. we've had plenty of these movies. it feels derivative. we shall see how it's executed, but from reading the reviews it doesn't seem theyve done a good job Edited August 21, 2017 by Alli

Fancyarcher
Cool that reviews aren't that bad. Hopefully it performs very well too. It still looks like a decently fun film.

I want to see it because it's Cruise doing something a bit different from his action roles and I'm a sucker for films that are based on a true story

I'd like to see him step out of his comfort zone too. It's been years since he's done something like Collateral or Magnolia for example. I'd really like to see him challenge himself, even if he's comfortable with the "man on the run" type flicks he does.

The Dark Alfred
He always does different genres. Tropic Thunder and Rock of Ages wasn't that long ago. I think he realised that the window for action films are closing, so he'll do them for a few years until he can. Dramas can come over 60. HesAPooka
Another RT review up. 7.5 rating so far. It'll go down for sure, but still nice to see it off to a good start.
