I disagree with WB immensely.  The film is one of the funniest I've seen in any genre and part of what makes the film so charming is that it not just borrows, but pays homage to a lot of the greats from the 80's.  Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Revenge of the Nerds, Some Kind of Wonderful, Fast Times and many others.  I love the message of the movie and I would give this a 10/10 if not for the fact that the bitch at the end of the movie should have gotten a little more thrown back at her.  A final disgusted look on her face, people laughing at her, something.  That small complaint aside, it's brilliant.

9.9/10

I was going to see Kingsman this weekend, but you're starting to make change my mind, I love nearly every 80s movie you listed off...

The Duff might not be for everyone,( I can't imagine someone not liking it) but for me, I was laughing from beginning to end.  And it has a good message, of course, and terrific performances from pretty much everyone.  There was also about 10 minutes in the movie where it gets really dark and I honestly felt bad for the main character.

I hope you like it, Kalo.

The Duff is Mean Girls with a little more drama and that's what I think makes this film work. Yes, the story is predictable and the message at the end is a little heavyhanded that just makes you rolls your eyes but the films gives you some character development that actually makes you root for this character and just want her to be happy, the film has lots of laughs espically from the teachers played by Ken Jong, Chris Wylad, and Romany Malco. There are a few moments in the film when you clearly tell these actors are defintely a little too old to be playing high schoolers. Mae Whitman who plays the main character is actually 28 years old but she actually looks like a high schooler for the most part. The film is a nice addition to the high school movie genre and one worthy of checking out.

Just finished watching it ...and honestly I didn't expect to like it so much wow

It's actually a really great movie. It's funny and holds a great message about acceptance and not changing who you are for other people.

(Side note, the mom is HELLA rad. Fuckin' A :D )

Really surprised but liked it as well and Mae Whitman was so damn charming (still perplexing that they recast her in Independence Day 2 unless she turned the role down). Anyway, highly recommended and hopefully has a mainstay along the likes of Mean Girls, Easy A, 10 Things I Hate About You and Can't Hardly Wait (of the more 'recent' teen rom-coms).

Self-help: The Movie or You Can End Up with the Jock, Too.

Tries to be another Mean Girls, but without the edgy and the witty.

You know, in these kind of movies, when the popular kids are super mean, one-dimensional stock characters? here, the writer goes to the other extreme, everyone is so nice and understanding that it feels detached from reality, aside from one roll eyes worth antogonist.

Last half is absolutely abysmal, not even Mae Whitman's charisma makes it palatable.

Courage to break the mold it does not have. 35/100
