DC has had 4 out of 5 of their movies get mixed to poor reception, and they're still averaging over 700m worldwide. They're wearing down the brand for sure but I think they still have a bit of breathing room, just can't keep spending BvS/JL money.

There is so much in play for them that I could see them (or if it was me in charge) spending BvS/JL type of money from time to time (say a la Disney doing massive reshoot on SW if needed because of how much value there is to not have a bad Star wars movie outthere).

Strong franchise focus on DC Entertainment characters included cinematic hits Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad; 10 series on television for the 2016-2017 season and videogames like the upcoming Injustice 2. Fans spent $4.5 billion on DC-related consumer products.

I think the big gap between JL and Aquaman is essentially the breather for WB/DC. Aquaman's budget is $160m which is only slightly more expensive than WW's due to the VFX and Shazam I imagine is $120-140m. Even Suicide Squad with its cast cost $175m so WB can keep the budget at a sensible level.

Not sure how wise it is to use those round number rumored budget. Captain America first avengers gross budget was almost 200m, I am sure if you would have read about is budget in the media at the time of it's release they would have said a 120 to 140m or some filler number like that.

You can see why WB isn't putting the brakes on DC films because they make money and also not to fall behind Marvel.

TBH we'll never really know some true budgets, we only know about Guardians 1 going overbudget because of the tax rebate it got from the UK Government

It's funny how the trolls have forgotten that Wonder Woman was a huge hit both critically and financially and they already have Shazam filming, Aquaman in post production and WW2 and SS2 shooting in the next few months, JL wasn't successful but the studio has moved on from it and are focusing on the next couple of films..

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Based on the past experiences, Aquaman is most likely to have some expensive reshoots. The budget might be over $160m.

So you're saying James Gunn being brought in to helm the reshoots is imminent? /s

All 17 MCU movies before BP never had relevant roles for black women ether, with the exception of the one black actress painted green in the GOTG movies.

This is true but Feige is correcting that like mad now. He told Vulture (or was it Variety?) that he expects DeWanda Wise to become a fan favorite after she appears in Captain Marvel. She is probably playing Monica Rambeau, who was the first female Captain Marvel in the comics. Monica/Spectrum is arguably the most powerful heroine and one of the most powerful Avengers, period. She's definitely Marvel's fastest hero since she can travel at the speed of light, among other things. I can't wait to see what they do with her.

Did Wonder Woman have expensive reshoots? I don't think just because JL had to salvage, Aquaman is going to be the same.

Aquaman was basically filmed while WB still thought JL was going to be a hit. I think it is too late for that movie.

Shazam and WW2 are going to be the first DC movies done with the knowledge of JL's failure.

Wonder Woman did have reshoots, just that they were not extensive. As for Aquaman, I won't bet against WB studio heads. They already amply demonstrate that they would go to great lengths just to salvage their investment. Heck, I think they got the balls to fire James Wan if needed.

" I think it is too late for that movie." It is never too late. We still got around 10 months to FIX the movie. JL's reshoots happened around 4 months before the movie was out !

DC fans hang in there, the Marvel fans maybe acting smug right now, but you can just leave it to Jim to show them their place (and yours)

If you can find a toy store that STILL sells these two blue creatures or get me someone that can tell me the names of these two characters, I might agree with you.

You know this is why they put meme rats (progs) in star wars, for that toy revenue. Commercialism at it's worst.

On the other hand we have Avatar, film-making as a high art.
