Okay, seems fine to me (600 theatres seems a high number that most films will drop below in about 3-4 weeks but I believe that my brain is lying to me with that opinion :) ). Questions that pop into mind:

1. If I am over the limit, am I still allowed to invest in say 10% of Civil War, so long as that film doesn't end up releasing in 6000 theatres or am I banned from any investment of any kind?

2a. If I am currently at 290%, am I able to invest in 100% of civil war still because I am under 300% when I make the investment, or am I limited to just 10%?

2b. 10% of Civil War would only be about 360 theatres and thus count for zero. As 600 is about 17% of the theatre count is my limit of investment a) 17% (so it still remains a 0% wide investment), b ) 27% (that 17% that is free plus my 10% I have left to add, or c) 100% because I am at less than 300% when I invest/when it releases.

3. When we get to Expansion season, how will this work for films like say The Revenant, that opened in 4 theatres but then explode wide a month later?

3. When we get to Expansion season, how will this work for films like say The Revenant, that opened in 4 theatres but then explode wide a month later?

1) I'll make this clear... NO.  I said if the film had WIDE listed on BOM then you cannot invest in it (> 600 estimate counts as the same of course too)  you are restricted from investing in films LISTED as wide release intially .. (even the film does go wide, even its forecast, i will allow an investment... see answer below)

2) YES you can... the restriction does not kick in until you are > 300% released.  remember you're investing in a future release there so it won't count until it's actually released and not before... in theory if you are clever enough you can time the releases you buy such that glide under the radar, but once again the effect still works as it will slow you down and stop you from investing in everything which this is designed too without stopping you playing at all.  because eventually all films will drop below the limits....

I'm ingoring 2b as i think my answers here will answer it already .. .lol and i just don't get it :P

3) expansion films will work the same... while they are limited they DO NOT count towards the limit, but as soon as your investment goes above 600 screens, well then it will count.

hope this makes sense.  it's not about being released as wide, it's designed about the amount of films you have in "wide release" at any one time.  the key here is release.  it's means theoretically you can be @ 290% and invest in whatever you want but once your @ 300 or higher, you can't....

so for example.

Week prior to BVS :-  you have the following setup

* you have 190% worth of wide releases

* 100% investment in BVS

* 100% investment in the jungle book

Post BVS release, you go up to 290% wide releases because the 190% is all still in wide release + you have BVS.

Following week you invest in :

* Civil War - 100% (say you have enough cash)

2nd weekend of BVS, your % now drops to 260% thanks to a film dropping below 600 screens.

again you can invest in something :

you decide that hardcore henry looks worthwhile (coming out that week) and invest 30%.

you also invest in Ratchet and clank for 50%

3rd weekend BVS goes and Hardcore opens.. so you go 260% + 30% but another film drops below 600 ~ -40% = 250%

4th weekend BVS and the jungle book opens - your % goes 250% + 100% -20% (for a film that dipped below) = 330%

Now you are unable to invest in The Angry Birds etc.....

5th weekend of BVS ... no change... 330%

6th Weekend of BVS ... -50% = 280% but ratchet and clank opens... so back at 330%

7th weekend BVS + civil war opens... another -50% ... but thanks to civil war you are now up to 380%....

i hope this now makes sense.

oh in the above example... if that player had not invested in hardcore henry then the restrictions would not have happen... as i said, it's going to be about smart investments rather than just going nuts into everything you can..... no point in going over the limit and then finding that you can't invest for like over a month meaning you likely end up with a gap in your schedule later in the year.... hence the complete blockage at the time.  in theory you can end up with a lot of % active (ie. >> 300% but it locks you out of further investments....  i'm sure there will be times where someone delibrately goes over, but while there is a lag in the impact, they will be brought back to earth eventually.

it allso means while investing 100% in a big film up front will look great for a while to your bottom line when it's still in > 600 theatres 6 weeks + and only early a few million... you will feel the pain and hoping the studio / theatres owners stop showing the darn movie!

a perfect example is Spotlight from last year...

Feb 19–21 26 $522,353 -25.3% 401 -54 $1,303 $38,102,424 16
Feb 26–28 21 $735,999 +40.9% 685 +284 $1,074 $39,121,520 17
Mar 4–6 14 $1,766,212 +140% 1,227 +542 $1,439 $41,562,351 18
Mar 11–13 16 $931,412 -47.3% 847 -380 $1,100 $43,187,686 19

the past 3 weekends, it would have counted towards your total % (imagine if you had 100% tied up in it ?)  the pain it would create!  and this also shows what would happen during expansions... week 16 @ 100% would mean nothing, but week 17, 18, or 19 would mean 100% towards active if you have 100% in the film of course.

and for those in KFP3 for example:

12 7 Kung Fu Panda 3 Fox $1,707,494 -52.2% 1,650 -1,050 $1,035 $136,465,362 - 7

still in 1650 theatres at this point... and up to week 7.

you get the picture... smart investments is going to the key and while getting a movie to go big is going to help a lot, this will make the game more strategic at times too.

Weekend Results 18th to 20th March 2016 : Lucasbenica finally wrestles control from Wrath…..

After being the bridesmaid for 4 weeks (and fell to 3rd last week), @lucasbenica, has finally taken the top spot, finally toppling Wraths lengthy at the top.  Lucas managed a strong 58.2m weekend.  @Wrath finally slipped a spot to 2nd with a further 36.5m to his name.  Returning to 3rd was me ( @JJ-8) with 34.5m.   @CJohn slipped back to 4th with 32m.   @WrathOfHan continued to hold down the 5th spot with a resilient 18.7m.

Also of note, was the new rule that has now come into effect.  With immediate effect, Lucasbenica and Wrath (out 2 leaders) are now restricted from invested in any film “LISTED” as wide.  At this point, I am unsure whether Wrath will be able to invest again this Friday – it’s possible given both Risen and the Young Messiah should both shed theatres.  It will depend on how many theatres as to whether he returns under.  Wrath is at 340% and unless both go below wide release, he will remain restricted thanks to his 100% investment MBFGW2.  Lucasbenica, on the other hand is currently locked to remain restricted for the near future thanks to investments in BVS and MBFGW2 totalling 130%.  No doubt he will get some investments back in a week or 2’s time.

Anyway, before I show this weeks chart, onto next weekend.  Well It’s all about 1 film and who has investments in it.  Lucasbenica is certain the lead the weekend by a wide margin given the fact he led this weekend and he has 100% investment in BVS too.  Given he has spent 260m on the film, he has some way to go to profitability.  Unless MBFW2 really breaks out, I expect Wrath to dip someway down the chart.  In fact the top half of the chart could be completely flipped on it’s head over BVS hits the ground running.

by the way, when someone is in the red i will post the list of films that put you in the red in the bank account thread. (Wrath & Lucasbenica's lists are already in there)

as it stands, no one else is in danger at the moment, but i am sure it will begin to change from next week.

Weekend Results 25th - 27th March 2016 (Easter 2016) : Lucasbenica Shatters the Easter Game Record......

With a slight (some here would say it's an underperformance) overperformance from BVS, @lucasbenica has managed to put up one of one of the all time record weekends in Fantasy Box Office Game with a stunning 203m.  The Easter Weekend previous high was Alfred back in 2010 with 58m.  Even the March record wasn't even close to the new high with Lucas nearly doubling the previous high. In fact it is the third highest weekend total in the game.  As a result Lucas also has already taken the overall March record with a few days to spare.  @grey ghost fought his way into 2nd spot with an excellent 89m.  @BourneFan #1 took down third with 65m.  @chasmmi rallied  into 4th with 48m while @Exxdee managed to round out the top 5.  In fact only lucas remained from last weeks top 5 such was the change in the charts with last weeks 2nd spot ( @Wrath) dipping to 9th this week.

Both Wrath and Lucasbenica continue to subject to investment restrictions with both now well in excess of the 300% level, and i expect lucasbenica to remain at this level for sometime yet.

After the highs of the weekend just gone, expect some semblance of normalcy as BVS comes back to earth.  Which will bring Lucasbenica back down from his high.   At this point, I expect Lucasbenica will easily hold onto the top spot for the 3rd weekend running.  Grey Ghost will continue to sit in second especially given the fact he has an investment in the only wide release of note God's not dead 2 this coming weekend.  cjohn also is likely to rise, potentially into the top 5 if GND2 manages a reasonable opening.

Weekend Results : 1st to 3rd April 2016 - lucasbenica bleeds but holds onto the top spot....

As the old addage says, the bigger they are, the bigger they fall.  Well @lucasbenica's total collapsed on the back of BVS collapsing, dipping over 60% this week to 78m.  @grey ghost stayed in second with 38m also down a hefty 57%.  @CJohn moved up into 3rd with 32m.  @Wrath moved back into the top 5 with 29m. and @BourneFan #1 rounded out the top 5 with a further 24m.

lucasbenica remains  as the  only player who is restricted from investing in "wide" releases though 3 other players will likely join him this coming friday (Grey Ghost, Cjohn and  Wrath - yes you are returning).

Weekend Results : 8th - 10th April - CJohn bosses Lucasbenica out of the top spot as he continues his slide....

@CJohn has managed to slip into the top spot with just over 42m, taking @lucasbenica from the top in what must seem to be a very early slip from the top spot especially given the high and time 2 weeks ago.  Lucas managed just over 41m.  @Wrath jumped into 3rd with 37m making the top 3 a close race this week.  4th was @grey ghost who slipped 2 places with 24m.  @chasmmi rounded out the top 5 and was only a mere 90k under Greg Ghosts total.

Next weekend sees the release of the next barbershop which should be able to make the right cut in the box office.  Then again, the Jungle Book could (and will no doubt) blow everything else away... ok seriously, the top spot should end up being an easy win for  @Wrath who has came third last weekend and has investments in both Barbershop and the jungle book.  I also expect @The Panda Knight and myself to figure in the top 5.

Also I should note that @CJohn@lucasbenica, @Wrath and  @grey ghost are all now under the restrictions rule and are unable to invest in "Wide" releases until their "Active %" reduces below %300 (See the bank account thread if you want to check what your invested in).

Weekend Results 15th - 17th April 2016 : Wrath retakes hold...

On the back of an impressive over performance by the Jungle Book, @Wrath easily retook the top spot with over 141m for the weekend.  @The Panda Knight took down second with his first weekend above the 100m mark.  I ( @JJ-8) took down 3rd spot with 56m.  @DAJK rallied into 4th with 30m while @BourneFan #1 rounded out the top 5 with 26m.  Last weeks top spot @CJohn was relegated to 6th this weekend without any new investments.

Currently 4 players are restricted at least 2 of them will be for at least the new 2 to 3 weeks.  Refer to the following post in the sub forum for what you left guys....

Next week sees the  Huntsman Sequel which no one has invested in (surprise  surprise)  and Elvis & Nixon. In the end I expect Wrath will hold  onto the top spot next week thanks to the jungle book.

Weekend Results 22nd - 24th April 2016 : Wrath 3-peats as we wait for the Civil War to begin....

Not suprisingly, not a position changed from last weekend.  With only 1 film invested in releasing this weekend and it essentially not going truly wide in the end, resulted in the game Box Office dipping across the board by 40% (give or take a few).  @Wrath remained on top with a another strong showing of 84m.  2nd spot was @The Panda Knight with 64m also down 40%.  I remained in 3rd ( @JJ-8)  also down 40%.  4th was @DAJK and @BourneFan #1 in 5th.

Next weekend could see a couple of small changes thanks to the release of Keanu (the only film invested in for the coming weekend), but Wrath is expected to easily hold onto the top spot for the 4th weekend in a row (and 9th in total this year) thanks to the fact he has the largest investment in Keanu.  That weekend will be his last weekend on top for sometime due investment restrictions which are now in full swing (he is the only player who is currently restricted with @lucasbenica, @CJohn and @grey ghost all coming off restrictions as of last Friday.)  The Civil War is coming.....

Weekend Results 29th April - 1st May : Wrath grips on for 1 more round as the Civil War approaches.....

As expected, @Wrath held on for the 3rd weekend running with a another 64.9m.  In fact to be honest the top 5 did not change position.  @The Panda Knight hit 44.9m, I managed 26.6m ( @JJ-8), @DAJK pulled down 12.5m while @BourneFan #1 took in 11.6m.  Nothing much else to discuss in regards to the weekend chart.

Not surprisingly, Wrath also took out the Monthly honours for April with over 420m in the till.  He now leads all in revenue with over 1.117B to date.  I should note, that he currently cannot invest in any films (wide) until his % drops below 300%, which could  take a few more weeks yet.  The Panda also slipped into 2nd with 273m.  3rd belonged  to @lucasbenica who started the month very strongly but fell away due investment restrictions in the middle of the month.  I was in 4th (again) with 163m.  and rounding out the 5 was @CJohn

Next week, well all i will say expect a record breaking, total flip on it's head chart... I'm not going to review who will lead (and you know you are) but Civil war is indeed ready to hit and it will explode with a massive boom!

Here are the 2 charts.

Weekend Results 6th - 8th May 2016 : CJohn wins the Civil War.

@CJohn Took the weekend thanks completely to Captain America Civil War.  He led with over 182m for the weekend, not quite the record some expected.  @grey ghost jumped into 2nd spot with 153m.  @BourneFan #1 took out 3rd spot with 113m while @Simionski made off with 103m.  Not suprisingly the top 4 this week all had investments in Civil War.  the highest place who did not have an investment in Civil War was @Wrath who slipped from 1st to 5th this weekend and made 34m.

Wrath continues to be the only investor who is under restrictions.  His % is still over 500% but i expected that start to reduce fairly quickly in the coming weeks with him potentially being able to invest in 2 to 3 weeks time.  This will unfortunately exclude him from investing in Finding Dory (assuming it's fully invested in by then).  I should note, he shouldn't be too upset given he currently leads overall revenue quite convincingly.  but he should warned, CJohn is coming........
