Thursday - TR 1.5 TFA 1.35

Recommended Posts

Probably wasn't totally up to Disney. I imagine theatres had contractual obligations for at least 2 weeks to retain theatres for 5th wave and Grandpa. Theatres, I'm sure, would have gladly scaled those back to make room for Panda and Finest Hours, but they probably weren't able to. So TFA was the victim.

I also believe that @nilephelan stated in another thread that Disney had to give up some TFA screens in order to get the high count for the Finest Hours.

Great holds this week though by the top 2 - TFA all things considered is keeping pace with the summer big boys without the benefit of summer week days and thats amazing.

44 consecutive days >$1M for TFA through Sunday.  Slim but possible chance that it hits 1M flat on Monday if the weekend goes north of 11.5M  (-70% from ~3.5M Sunday) which would mean 2 more >1M days for a total of 46 consecutive.  In recent years JW had 45, TA had 52, Hangover had 52, Frozen had 47, Blind Side had 45, TS3 45, Avatar had 80.

And ETs record was 15 years before Titanic and 27 years before Avatar. Perspective.

Movie releases were *really* different in ET's day, though, making really really long runs far more doable than today. ET added theaters for *9* consecutive weeks after its release and was still in 1000+ theaters on weekend 31. Movies just aren't handled like that today.

Edit - That list of movies is wacky. Space Hunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone! I remember watching that in the theater! Molly Ringwald as a sci-fi hero! In 3D! My god that was a terrible movie. It opened the same weekend as Return of the Jedi? Why did that seem like a good idea?

6 X 7 = 42.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday is 3.

42 + 3 is 45 not 44. So how are you getting that TFA would be at 44 and JW would be at 45?! Lol they both opened on Fridays. That's 45 days my friend, not 44.

Whoops, forgot to count Thursday .  So 45 through Thursday with hopeful potential for 47 (actually given this weeks holds, if Wed/Thurs next week stay above Monday's number we could add those 2 plus next weekend so it'd get to 52 but that's a dream scenario).
