Kinda feel the hubbub about KFP3's release date is overblown. Had they opened it on MLK or Presidents Day, how much more would the final gross really be? To me, it's more about audiences not being all that interested in the first place. The second one dropped from the first and this will drop again like so many trilogies.

So now Pixar and Dreamworks are competing for the biggest BO disappointment

KFP3 making 120-130m (prod budget 145m) though disappointing is not bad compared to TGD's 120m (prod budget 200m).

KFP3 will at least break even or make some profit for DW. It's Dom + China will be close to 300m.

TGD is looking at ~375m ww.

KFP3 seems disappointing more due to China's bo than Dom (It will do 100m less than expected in China).

Has everything been underperforming in China recently?

Eeh....i wouldn't call some movies big underperformers in China.

Spectre, at least did increase from Skyfall...in China. Force Awakens did great numbers enough. Not spectacular....but nothing horrendous.

It all depends on the WOM, Hollywood movies get in China.

Star Wars (#8) is the most impressive of all in that list ^_^

People use the release date excuse when they don't want to admit that audiences just weren't that interested.

My mom's one of those that will see every Sparks adaptation and she loved The Choice. I think there definitely is a niche audience that if they enjoyed one of his movies will enjoy them all. She did bring up how the main guy reminded her of Matthew McConaughey. Not in looks but the way he talked and his mannerisms.
