Both Studios have released some of the best reviewed and critically acclaimed animated films in history. but more recently Disney has been killing it. they have released 2 of the last 3 BAP winners. and every film they released since Princess and the Frog has garnered critical and audience approval. PIXAR is no slouch either and has winning yet another BAP with Inside Out. but with the exception of IO. some would say they have been lacking a bit in quality- enough so so that they're sister Studio Walt Disney Animation has actually legged ahead of them in terms of quality and audience approval, in fact people who go to see a Disney Animated film today, are just as much to expect quality films then Pixar and maybe even more so. in the early and mid 2000s PIXAR seemed unstoppable, but after a few missteps in the last few years it would appear they are playing kept up with Disney and have only really released one truly acclaimed film in the last 5 years (Inside Out). whereas every Disney animated film from the 2010s has been met with critical acclaim.

What Studio do you personally feel releases more quality films on a regular basis?

PIXAR's Last 5 films

The Good Dinosaur (2015)

Inside Out (2015)

Monsters University (2013)

Brave (2012)

Cars 2 (2011)

Disney Animations last five films

Zootopia (2016)

Big Hero 6 (2014)

Frozen (2013)

Wreck-it Ralph (2012)

I am probably in the rare minority who would have chosen Disney animation over Pixar even before they went into their "revival era" so it's not hard for me. but to see them step back into the spotlight of the critical acclaim they haven't recieved since the 90s, was something great to behold. and with their most recent release "Zootopia" they are now clearly cemented into an era of acclaimed animation.

I was a child in the 90s. so I watched Disney Animations. I grew up on The Lion King and Beauty and the beast. and by the time movies like "Finding Nemo" and "Monsters inc" were released I was growing up and was kind of in a (very short lived thankfully) anti-animation mode. so most PIXAR films just don't carried the nostalgic weight that Disney does for me (with the exception of the first 2 Toy Stories and A Bug's Life)

so I'll compare all they last films

Zootopia Vs The Good Dinosaur

Big Hero 6 Vs Inside Out (extremely close)

Frozen Vs Monsters University

Wreck-it Ralph Vs Brave

Winnie the Pooh Vs Cars 2

Tangled Vs Toy Story 3

The Princess and the Frog vs Up

Bolt Vs Wall-e

Meet The Robinsons Vs Ratatouille

Chicken Little Vs Cars

(haven't seen Home on the range)

Brother Bear Vs The Incredibles

Treasure Planet Vs Finding Nemo

Lilo and Stich Vs Monsters inc (drawl?)

Atlantis the Lost Empire Vs Toy Story 2

The Emperor's New Groove Vs A Bug's Life (would choose Mulan over it as well)

Tarzan vs Toy Story (would choose it over Pocahontas as well)

Disney: 10 Pixar: 4

Disney wins!

Disney over Pixar for me.

Since Pixar came it's 8-6 to Pixar. But haven't watched Zootopia and Winnie the Pooh.

Am sure I will like ZOOTP more than TGD and WtP more than Cars 2 (which I hated).

So that would make it 8-8, with Disney winning all the latest 5 showdowns.

Not to mention that the pre-Pixar Disney movies were amazing. So as a studio it's Disney for me.

Zootopia vs TGD

BH6 vs IO

Frozen Vs Monsters University

Wreck-it Ralph Vs Brave

Winnie the Pooh Vs Cars 2

Tangled Vs Toy Story 3

The Princess and the Frog vs Up

Bolt Vs Wall-e

Meet The Robinsons Vs Ratatouille

Chicken Little Vs Cars

Brother Bear Vs The Incredibles

Treasure Planet Vs Finding Nemo

Lilo and Stich Vs Monsters inc

Atlantis the Lost Empire Vs Toy Story 2

The Emperor's New Groove Vs A Bug's Life

Tarzan vs Toy Story

Overall : Pixar-8 Disney-6 (8-8 if I include ZOOTP and WtP)

Last 5 films : Pixar-2 Disney-3 (0-5 if I include ZOOTP and WtP)

You have to look at the entire filmography of WDA vs Pixar. WDA is better in my opinion, Pixar only surpassed WDA in the 2000s and made a steady decline in the early 2010s. During the 90s and early 2010s, WDA made better animated films.

1990s

WDA: Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Hercules, Aladdin, Mulan, Pocahontas, Dinosaurs, Tarzan, Fantasia 2000

Pixar: A Bug's life, Toy Story, Toy Story 2

Early 2010s

WDA: Tangled, Zootopia, Big Hero 6, Frozen, Wreck-it Ralph, Winnie the Pooh

Pixar: Monster's University, Cars 2, Brave, The Good Dinosaur, Inside Out, Toy Story 3

Kinda hard to compare these only by year as overall quality of both studios seems to fluctuate.  For example, I hate The Incredibles, but I wouldn't want to be forced to pick between it and Home on the Range in terms of which movie I dislike more.  It might be more effective to line the Pixar films up with the Disney film of the same number (ie Toy Story vs Snow White), though the advances in animation (both in quality and technique) give an advantage to Pixar.  Probably the most fair way to do it would be to start at the Disney renaissance era films and line them up against the Pixar films from there

The Little Mermaid vs Toy Story
The Rescuers Down Under vs A Bug's Life
Beauty and the Beast vs Toy Story 2
Aladdin vs Monsters Inc
The Lion King vs Finding Nemo
Pocahontas vs The Incredibles
The Hunchback of Notre Dame vs Cars
Hercules vs Ratatouille
Mulan vs WALL-E
Tarzan vs Up

and so on and so on.
