Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s hit animation reclaimed top spot in Australia with a $2.4m third weekend for $13.3m, and has two more territories to release: South Africa next weekend and Italy on Oct 6.

With the opening in Poland, I think Pets is pretty much guaranteed to pass IO. Unless it does somehow does less than ~$13M in Italy.

Pets power continues with another$8.1M in 57 territories for an international total of $456.6M. Combined with the estimated U.S. total of $364.3M, the worldwide cume is $820.9M. The only new play this weekend was Poland with a $1.7M No. 1 at 189 dates, topping all comps. For the 3rd week in a row, the Illumination/Universal title is No. 1 inAustralia with kids off school through early October. The 18-day total is $13.3M. Still to come are South Africa next week and Italy on October 6.

Posting a chart-topping $463k bow in South Africa, The Secret Life Of Pets hopped to $6.9m from its 53 territories for $468.8m so far.

Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures’ hit animation enjoyed a $2.5m fourth weekend in Australia for a local tally of $18.5m and held the top spot in New Zealand with $458k for $2.2m. It opens in its final market of Italy next weekend.

Scruffing up another $6.9M in 53 territories, the Illumination/Universal doggernaut dipped just 24% from last weekend and raised the international total to $468.8M. Worldwide, Max, Duke and the gang have woffed down $833.7M. South Africa was the major opener at No. 1 with $463K at 96 dates. The debut tops all comps and is Universal’s highest opening of the year. Also significantly, Australia is holding at No. 2 in the 4th frame with schools out. The 25-day cume is $18.5M. Italy is the final release this week.
