Sunday drops were better than expected across the board. Only Nice Guys was overestimated, Angry Birds, Me Before You, Alice and Apocalypse all underestimated by half a million.

I knew nothing about The Wailing until a week ago but it's become one of my most anticipated of the year at this point. The constant Memories of Murder comparisons aren't making it any easier.

Yes. It and The Handmaiden are my two most anticipated followed closely by The Lobster and Kubo. Gotta admit, I'm an easy mark for South Korean imports. I was pretty devastated when I saw The Wailing didn't have a release date in sight for Pittsburgh. And, with Park Chan-wook's The Handmaiden, I don't believe it's been picked up yet for distribution in the States. So... I guess I'll see about that one getting to my hometown too. I guess I shouldn't complain too much, Pittsburgh was one of the few cities to get The Mermaid earlier this year.

Yeah, Father's Day seems likely. Should be at about 392 before Friday, 396 after next weekend.

So, another year, another $400M+ DOM/$1B+ WW MCU grosser. I'm assuming that streak will come to a halt next summer but I suppose Guardians Vol. 2 has an outside shot.

I think Guardians can do at least 350/900 unless it just completely sucks even on the marketing stage, which is unlikely. And if it can 1) be really good and 2) not look overly tied to the larger MCU I think it can pull a DMC/TF2 and climb over 400 domestically. From there 1b WW will be easy.

Good idea. Who could have predicted that Iron Man might not be a draw, though?

Here's projections for next week based on the weekend actuals.

NOTES: The Monday predictions for X-Men and Alice are way too high, because their only Monday thus far was a holiday. Any effect this is having on the rest of the week should be fixed when we get Monday actuals. Also, Angry Birds is showing an increase for next weekend. The reason for that? My regressor film, 2011's Hop, had just such an anomalous weekend in its run (complete with a drop on Saturday), and the time series process isn't drowning it out completely. It may go away as the week progresses.

Odd. Not that long ago that was seen as one of MCU's strengths.

@johnboy3434 that anomaly with Hop may have been easter weekend? Not remembering exactly which weekend it was released but that would explain it's odd pattern - edit just looked at MOJO's calendar and yes that was Easter weekend. You will want to ignore both the high Thursday and Friday increase as well as the Saturday dip and huge Sunday drop. In other words it's not a compatible weekend at all.

It's still a strength. Remove all MCU ties from Civil War and make it a solo Cap adventure, and you probably get a 200m grosser. It's just that it's getting diminishing returns.
