I liked it. Neither it or Into Darkness have come anywhere close to the '09 movie, but it does what it needs to. It really wasted Idris Elba though, it's a pity that this and Oscar Isaac in X-Men brought these charismatic actors on board just to give them lame villain roles and submerge them in silly makeup while robbing them of all of their most entrancing qualities.

Idris proved the voice is enough to be truly menacing when melded with the right CGI in The Jungle Book.  He's terrifying in that even when he's lounging.

It's awesome that he's been in four of the year's biggest movies (Zootopia, Jungle Book, Dory, Star Trek). Too bad the "progressive" side of it is nullified since his actual face isn't seen in any of them.

I think there were many of us who saw LO opening this big. The trailers wereally very effective and Wan's name helped sell it. If you look at the overy 60M thread there's a lot of people in the over 60 camp.

Looks like Bourne, Pets, Purge will bring Universal DOM to over a billion by the end of Summer.

@James Do you think Warner Bros can get to 2 billion DOM this year? With LO doing well, looks like 1 billion DOM, for the pre-SS movies, is possible. Can SS, Fantastic Beasts, Storks, and the rest of the slate make 1 billion DOM? If so, only once had a studio crossed 2 billion DOM before last year, and then we get two years in a row w/ two studios doing it. Looks like at least 1.7 billion DOM assured.

Whatever happens with IA, Fox still has a nice line-up of movies left, and they would need to avg about 80-90 million for this to be Fox's best year ever and make it a tight race w/ WB. Seems possible.
