Screendaily Jack Reacher: Never Go Back shot to an estimated $31m on its overseas debut for a global bow of $54m.

Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions’ action sequel landed the top spot in the likes of Russia ($1.9m), Taiwan ($1.5m), Indonesia ($1.9m) and the UAE ($1.4m), while it bested the opening of Jack Reacher in the UK with $3.3m.

Other debuts included a $5.6m bow in China, $2.8m in France (26% below Jack Reacher) and $2m in Australia (13% below Jack Reacher). However, the latter two did see the original film open in a holiday period.

From 902 IMAX screens in 45 markets worldwide, Never Go Back grossed $5.1m with $2.5m coming from 376 screens in North America and $1m from 327 screens in China.

Once again Taiwan and Indonesia have opened really well looks like Cruise is major draw in these markets!

Overseas, Never Go Back launched to $31M and took the number one spot in 20 markets with most debuts beating the last film. China opened day and date with North America grossing $5.6M over three days compared to the two-day $4.8M debut of the first film from February 2013, two months after the domestic release. The first Jack Reacher grossed $218M globally and this $60M-budgeted sequel is likely to reach that mark, if not surpass it. Key markets Germany, Japan, Spain, Korea, Brazil, and Mexico are still to open in November.

Terrible numbers. Again it always looked like an unnecessary sequel. Just because of cruise its gonna gross 200m WW. minus him it would have bombed even worse.

I wish he would make great original movies like EOT was. But no need for EOT2 for sure.

Opened well.... terrible in china yea others were better than JR1 major ones like france australia wer less compared to first one thanks to holidays!!!

For instance asian markets apart from CHN did solid business

Singapore Malaysis Indonesia Taiwan and India all increase by very good margin

It's based on a book series it was always expected to have sequels assuming the first did enough.

I wouldn't mind if Cruise just cycled through MI, Reacher, Original Sci Fi and some random movie for the next few years.
