Belakor
This looks fantastic, the release it's odd, this should be closer to Halloween.

A lot of people are complaining about the date but I have a feeling they are going to try to do an Oscar campaign as most studios do with films released in December

The Oscars typically don’t care for horror movies or Robert Eggers.

It's only a matter of time before a horror film wins something big there.
35MM-18
I'm not holding out for this as a guaranteed BP nominee yet, but I do think it'll snag two or three nominations in the tech categories (most likely Cinematography, Makeup, Production Design, I imagine). ThomasNicole
While everyone knows trailer stats not always translate to big box office... this trailer has pulled some strong stats. In the 3 main US channels on twitter, the trailer got 139k likes and 12.4M views. It also got 7M views and 85k likes on Focus Features channel on YouTube It also did very well on TikTok from what i saw. Here in Brazil there was some pretty strong stats as well, it trended for 3 days. Of course, this is a gothic period piece and a strong Rated R ... still, it does have interest apparently. With the christmas calendar to help, i wouldn´t be shocked if it pulled 100M DOM / 200M WW, if people liked it of course.

Here’s me thinking it’ll struggle to do Nightmare Alley numbers.
35MM-18
Right now I'm gonna say $30-40M DOM tops. Maybe a similar number for overseas.
Wombat
Glad we're finally getting a monster classic that looks legitimately thrilling/spooky, it could have a nice run in the >$40M range if it's as good as it looks. If Eggers pulls this off, this will be in permanent Halloween movie rotation for me going forward.
kayumanggi
I actually think the release date is perfect. It's that weird one in a sea of family movies.
Insomnia
I like the release date too. I saw someone mention it on twitter - eerie, gothic and Christmas is one of those weird, paradoxical combos that work.
AniNate
If this movie did somehow manage to do as well as the "feel bad movie of Christmas" that'd be pretty damn good

dudalb
Interesteed in this, but always skeptical about reamkes of classic movies. And, yes, some really, really, good directors have failed when they remade one of their favorite classic films.
