I'm starting to think Homecoming won't be quite as big as some people are expecting. Yes, it has Iron Man and the new Spidey was very well-received, but right now I can't see more than 300m, which Disney/Sony would obviously still be thrilled with.

It might be one of the hardest films to predict this year.  But I'm thinking maybe 275

I'd say Spider-Man does 240m DOM. I don't know what to expect, though.

1) The franchise has been on a downward DOM slope with each successive film, which might indicate lack of sustaining interest in the franchise:

Rank Title (click to view) Studio Gross / Theaters Opening / Theaters Date
1 Spider-Man Sony $403,706,375 3,876 $114,844,116 3,615 5/3/02
2 Spider-Man 2 Sony $373,585,825 4,166 $88,156,227 4,152 6/30/04
3 Spider-Man 3 Sony $336,530,303 4,324 $151,116,516 4,252 5/4/07
4 The Amazing Spider-Man Sony $262,030,663 4,318 $62,004,688 4,318 7/3/12
5 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Sony $202,853,933 4,324 $91,608,337 4,324 5/2/14

2) The MCU magic will breathe new life into this, but not to OT heights.

I'll gauge the hype after the next trailer.

It kind of reflects the quality of the series.

Two great films.  A not nearly as good as the other two but not as bad as people make it out to be film.  A somewhat enjoyable film.  A yeah that one isn't very good film.

I remember SP 3 was kind of entertaining (dare I say underrated?), but yeah, I see why the reviews were trash.

Amazing Spider-Man was pretty good when I first saw it in theaters, but when I look back on it, I don't like it at all. Haven't bothered with AS2.

Original Spider-Man was good but not as good as the hype IMO.

As great the future is for Disney im worried that the other studios will not be able to keep up even remotly.

Disney is just on a hot streak right now. Two years from now you might be asking "what happened to Disney? They're in a big slump now".

This stuff is all cyclical, nothing lasts forever among the majors, good or bad.

Don't sleep on Despicable 3. Gonna be YUUUUUGE everywhere.

DM3 will be big (to some extent), but sorry it's going to difficult for it to match Minions' OW, let alone BATB.

The highest an animated film opened was Dory with $135M. Minions did $115M but it likely the peak of the franchise.
