John Carter OS thread: 209.7M total

Some of you guys give the impression it was just yesterday Hollywood discovered foreign markets. ;)If a Hollywood mega-budget tentpole flick makes 30/70 domestic/overseas this is really nothing special and doesn't mean it did "great" overseas or whatsover.

The ratio would be under 20/80 in future.

It was decided, not arbitrarily (though I don't know how), that the DOM market is around ten times the size of the AUS market, so you'd times whatever gross by ten to get the equivalent DOM gross.

Okay, I see... Average movie tickets in Australia (in USD dollars) are much more expensive then they are in the USA.From those 3 mio USD you could deduct something like 20% if you want to compare I guess. But in the end JC in Australia still performed somehow better in ticket sales and so on than it did in the USA.

Or we can just say it disappointed DOM.

No, it disappointed everywhere. Not just domestic. You don't spend something like 400 mio USD including p&a to just make something like 350 mio worldwide in the end. If you spend so much money you want to see extraordinary numbers EVERYWHERE.Disney will have to write off way more than 100 mio USD here...

Exactly. In fact, 25/75 should be the standard split right now for a fantasy flick.

"Disney’s John Carter premiered worldwide on the weekend, and dominated the foreign portion of its theatrical run by grossing $69.1 million -- $1.5 million less that Sunday's estimate -- in its debut at about 8,300 screens in 51 overseas territories."

Bad signs for its legs already.

And the global opening was less than 100M.
