Isn’t that a bump actually? Think it was 51.8k last hour.

Yeah, it was an increase from 51.9. By slowing down I mean relative to the previous hours gains rather than relative to yesterday. Positive first derivative but negative second. Anyway, CoolEric will be by in some 40 minutes with a big write up where CM is ~50k final.

Now I know what you're thinking already.  "How the hell did Captain Marvel outsell Infinity War locally for this day when it wasn't particularly close nationally? Even when adjusted numbers are taken into account?!?"

Well, 28 extra showings help. (though some of those extra 28 aren't being tracked for the purposes of the 'adjusted' count - I don't feel like seeing how many extra showings were at those two theaters right this second)

But, mostly?  IW had already sold 74% of its seats.  Only so much blood one can wring out of that stone.  The fact that IW still sold  so many tickets is a testament to the demand.

And, perhaps, a reason why my town is going absolutely bananas when it comes to showings for CM. ;)

Nationally?  I reckon enough showings popped up nationally that it is overwhelming the push by CM.

So, basically that's how.  Locally at least. :)

Wow that acceleration of presales is insane

I was kind of in disbelief of yesterday’s sales, but today didn’t just keep track, it actually picked up a lot relative to the only other comps of the same size. No clue what is going on any more, just going to strap in, watch numbers, and enjoy the ride.

Will you do a final update tomorrow before release? Either way than you for the effort you’ve put in with this tracking.

@CoolEric258 Do you have Ant-Man & The Wasp Comps?  The ASIB 97M has me going, "Is this gonna be AMATW all over again?"

ASIB made 1.35M in Tuesday and Wednesday previews. Its Fandango numbers today aren’t just presales, but some active same day showings.

I do two on Premiere Night. 👍

One about 1pm PST or so (I start at noon-ish and report when I'm done tabulating - I have a LOT to go through though, so it might not post 'till 1:15 or 1:30pm PST).

Then I do the final report about an hour or so before the main showings of the night start.  In this case I'll start it around 4:45pm to 5:00pm my time (to catch the fan events) and hopefully post it by 6:15 to 6:30.

And thanks for the compliment; much appreciated. :)

1.2085x as many tickets sold as Deadpool 2 2 days before release. 1.2085*18.6=22.5

1.3677x as many tickets sold as Solo 2 days before release. 1.3677*14.1=19.3

1.7979x as many tickets sold as Jurassic World 2 2 days before release. 1.7979*15.3=27.5

2.6970x as many tickets sold as Ant-Man and the Wasp 2 days before release. 2.697*11.5= 31 (lol)

2.8685x as many tickets sold as Venom 2 days before release. 2.8685*10=28.7

1.9717x as many tickets sold as Fantastic Beasts 2 3 days before release. 1.9717*9.1=17.9

Some of these are way too high, some are way too low, some are summer, some franchises particularly walkup friendly or not, theaters not exactly the same, 2 days left, etc. Use with caution. Still, figured people would be interested in the numbers anyway, so there they are.

Throw out two lowest and two highest gives average 24.75 vs 25.23 yesterday. Same caveats apply, with an additional warning that CM seems like it may be a bit stronger in Sac than nationally.

You know, I just thought of something that should have been fairly self-evident when it comes to # of screenings in a limited window like a Premiere Night:  Runtime.

IW was 2:40 while CM is 2:05 or so.

That extra half an hour adds up when one is talking about a four or five (or six) hour window.

Kinda ashamed at myself for not thinking about that sooner.   So, yeah, I think that also might partially explain why Sacto has more showings for CM than IW:  The film is much shorter.

And we don't stay up late much in this town (night owls like myself not included) so it's not like there'd be a ton of shows past 11:30 or midnight.

(During the weekend, it won't matter as much as screens can be juggled or opened much earlier/But the 7pm start forces things a bit)

Brie was apparently born in Sacramento. Maybe it's just the locals showing support to one of their own
