wtf @ pirates hold.... HOW?

Cars 3 released. Also see, John Carter when Avengers released, or any Disney movie when a different Disney movie releases. The double features being programmed helps the lower grossing movie a lot.

Yeah but never more than 2 million .  John Carter 1.5 max.  Pirates did not even collapse Sunday.

Oh damn, Kingsman has a 140M budget :jeb!: We're getting the two highest budget R rated films within weeks of each other.

Both Matrix sequel were below 140m ? talk about a good price.

That Disney Double Feature BumpTM

It's probably going to fall off a cliff next weekend, though. Going sub-3m wouldn't surprise me.

potc5 weekends

Date Rank Gross % Change Theaters Per Theater Total Gross Days
2017/05/26 1 $62,983,253   4,276 $14,729   $62,983,253 3
2017/06/02 3 $22,087,099 -65% 4,276 $5,165   $115,095,870 10
2017/06/09 4 $10,704,103    -52% 3,679 $2,910   $135,830,397 17
2017/06/16     6 $8,964,039 -16% 2,759 $3,249   $150,572,153    24

With a 9m weekend, despite TF5 coming this Wed, just 14.5 more in the rest of run for 165 is nearly certain isn't it?

19.5 away from 170. That's the number to watch. I think it will do 165+ but short of 170 like Skull Island because next weekend will compensate for FD and will loose theaters at a high rate come July.

Cars 3 unfortunately has no Disney movies coming up to help it get a similar bump. Add to that DM3 in 2 weeks time and I would wager we aren't going to see great legs from it.

The Fathers Day bump is nothing new, especially for heavily male skewing films. The Mummy had a slight reprieve. Even an under performing Transformers will kill the Mummy this weekend.

Have no clue why they decided to release right before DM3. Even the other Pixar films had at least a three week gap
