DM3 seems so much like Shrek 4. There were two beloved big predecessors and a big predecessor that had bad reception that didn't beat the second domestic.

I'm also kinda hoping Cars collapses to be honest. Not that I didn't like the movie, I haven't seen it yet and I'm sure I'll enjoy it, but I really want it to go under 50 for the weekend and have DM3 eat it up in a few weeks. Even though I'm sure I'll enjoy it when I see it.

Disney is just such dicks to movie theatres. They think they have so much power because every one of their movies (almost) is just a giant hit. So they keep making more and more demands to a ridiculous point that can screw over and demonize movie theatres, and I'm sick of going to work and hearing about the new "restrictions" Disney has put on their movies. So for once, please, just let any of the sub-par Disney movies flop for once. We need another John Carter.

Many are undestimating Transformers here. The franchise has a floor, like the Furious movies.

Have you seen the tracking my friend? $70M five day means sub $150M.

so much for scarlett being the biggest female box office draw, 2 flops in a row now

To be fair, she's a draw in action roles, and Rough Night wasn't.

And Ghost in the Shell is a quite niche movie

Put her in a Lucy-like role and it'll break-out once again

On the other hand, it would be nice if Disney made more original movies, but if a movie is going to flop, it's not going to be Marvel or Star Wars.

One of the things that started is staff aren't allowed to go for free. Which is fine, we still see them for free cause it's not like we don't know the best ways to "sneak in" nor will our managers kick us out. Then they started issuing bigger restrictions on their big movies like Star Wars or BatB or Guardians which limited the passes that we can accept for the movies. Okay, I understand that to a point. You guys have a cool new toy and you don't want anyone else playing with it unless they give you what they want. Then those pass restrictions included ALL Disney movies, and not just their first week of play.

And me now they're trying to restrict certain passes that people already pay for, not just ones that are given out for free. For example, there are passes that could be sold at say WalMart or Costco which would include 2 tickets, pop and popcorn for 20 bucks. Some of that money goes to the theatre for the concession, but most of it is for the studio (I think it averages to 7 bucks a ticket or something). So Disney is trying to issue restrictions on using those passes for any of their movies, which is ridiculous because people already paid for those. And they don't want it reading on the label of the ticket that it can't be used for their movies, it basically has to be us (me) telling the customer at the window that they can't use it. Which is not only bad for the company, but it makes me and my theatre and any other theatre look bad, because it looks like it is us who won't let them in.

Tgats just part of it, but it's the most recent development. It isn't like every other studio is 100% innocent but they are much easier to deal with overall. Back in 99 when phantom menace played, apparently fox made a rule that "ushers were not allowed to look at the screen while doing theatre checks unless they paid for a ticket while on shift". Lmao, good luck enforcing that buddy.

True. But I think Disney has tried, all the new ones seem to flop (like Tomorrowland).

$10.85M ??!!

What the hell?

:winomg::winomg:

I literally just said yesterday in the 3rd week-end club yesterday that the club was as good as dead because it wouldn't jump more than 70%

WHAT IS HAPPENING? Could $400M HAPPEN? :ohmyzod:

Toss out all the estimates and enjoy the ride...if you think of this like a CBM, your estimates are all doomed to fail...

WW's 3rd week-end and Avengers 2's 3rd week-ends will roughly match (around 1 million difference)

After its 3rd week-end, Avengers 2 added another $87M to its 372M gross for a total of $459M

I don't see Wonder Woman adding less than that considering that she has the benefits of summer weekdays.

WW will be sitting at around 272M coming out of the week-end, add 87 to that and the total is $359M

I'd say this should be a good floor for this movie right now

Speaking of SPIDEY, I have a feeling that it might be another film that does slightly better than expected. I thought that the poor marketing, the competitive July market (Spidey, Apes and Dunkirk in 3 consecutive weekends) and the horrible badwill from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 would bring it down, even if it would still do O/U 300M.

However:

  • The last trailer they launched got myself and more people on board w/how it looks;
  • The extensive NBA Finals spots certainly got in a lot of eyes too;
  • Even outside of trailers and TV spots, it seems there's Spider-Man something just about everywhere. And people are talking about this movie, both in social media and (while mine is a laughably small sample) in real life;
  • Apparently, it's a movie that will play very well w/families, the driving factor for Wonder Woman and Guardians V2's box office;
  • Speaking of them, WW and GOTG V2's breakout BO performances and strong wom will make people have appetite for another big superhero film - and their presence, WW's more noticeable obviously, won't hurt Spidey as the co-existance between movies that share the same audience has been strongly present this year;
  • And movies w/good wom won't hurt each other, as proven by the March '17 Madness of Get Out/Logan/Kong/BATB all making room for one another, so Spidey will also be able to co-exist w/your War For The Planet Of The Apes'es and your Dunkirks just fine (even if it totally won't have the same legs as a Wonder Woman or maybe even a GOTG V2).

So... I don't know. If it really comes out swinging (;)) as a good/great film for families that reintroduces Spider-Man in a great scale (Civil War notwithstanding), it could be another huuuuge smash hit, bigger than most of us think it's gonna be.

You mean, like #1 for the summer:)...nah, you couldn't mean that:)...
