250+ worldwide weekend without China and some other major markets (Japan, Germany, Spain...) is pretty impressive! WOW!

I bet Sony is over the moon with this Marvel deal now!

Its good  but I'm hearing China release date might be unfavorable

TOP 2017 MOVIES
1. Beauty and the Beast $503,976,432
2. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 $385,546,006
3. Wonder Woman $368,786,191
4. Logan $226,275,826
5. Fate of the Furious $225,704,665
> VIEW FULL YEARLY CHART

Could the the top 3 movies of the year be female-led movies. Star Wars Episode 8 at No.1, BaTB at No.2 and WW at No. 3?

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is co-led by a woman, so I think it could be the top four films of the year.

That's a bit extreme, was TASM2 that bad? You've got Marvel and IM, so you'd except more. You're right though, HC will be ultimately judged by its sequel, if that hits 400m with ease the strategy worked. No excuses there though, HC2 has to hit Captain America, IM3 numbers.

I agree with ya. I don't know why people are comparing Batman and Robin to TASM 1 and 2.

Batman and Robin got 10% on RT, while TASM 2 got 52%, which would be more mixed than negative. TASM 1 was certified fresh on RT. Hell, even Spider Man 3 was fresh ( though not certified ) on RT.  If Homecoming makes less than TASM 1, that's bad. There's no excuse, no argument. They even have Iron Man to give a boost.

The last 3 Spidey movies aren't bad, and the RT scores and the user scores show that.

I'll say this much: I'm now reconsidering even thinking about INFINITY WAR opening any higher than what this did, regardless of how many superheroes will be in the movie..  Sorry folks,, but it's extremely RARE that a MARVEL movie doesn't have a higher Saturday than normal.. Look back at every MARVEL released and Saturday is always higher.. ALWAYS.. Saturday being as weak as what it was for this is questionable.. Either franchise fatigue like mentioned several times, OR, people simply had better things to do on Saturday than go to the movies???

Or it was underestimated. Save the lament for Monday if actual numbers don't go up. It's too early for whining.

600 M is a 50/50 case scenario, imo. It's not touching 700 M.

yeah, i miscalculated by 100m in my earlier post probably cause i couldn't fathom it would struggle to cross 600.

it's on 375m os after an 18m weekend.

say it adds 35m more from current markets.

that takes it to 375+35 = 410m.

135 dom gives 410+135=545 from all current markets.

so needs 55m from all the new markets you listed to get to 600. even if it does that, 625 looks like the ceiling.

Sony is having two bonafide box office hits in the same month. Heads must literally be spinning over there.

Three if Emoji breaks out.

Emoji is going to do solid business, and The Dark Tower has a low budget to be successful. Goddamn, things turned around fast for them.

These threads always go to shit with the Marvel vs. DC bullshit. People take this shit too seriously.

I'm here for the analysis of the weekend and I'm seeing my movie or actor is so much more awesome than yours. WTF

The funny thing is that the studios actually don't care about the rivalry all that much. They just want to make money. Plus the producers and actors seem to be all on friendly terms.

Insert Citizen Kane clapping gif here.

Even the holidays look good with The Star and Jumanji.

Honestly, critics have always taken it pretty easy on the franchise, imo. 5 of the 6 films have tomatometers that are definitely too high. Movies like TASM2 and SM3 got it far too easy because critics obviously just like Spidey in general. Those quality of movies would have been massacred by critics in franchises like Batman or X-Men.

Yeah, make that a likely 4 box office hits in a month. Holy shit, what dimension is this?
