?

For some reason it opens tomorrow, Monday 2nd July, in Queensland and the Northern Territory. That's about 20-25% of the market. Then it opens on Wednesday 4th July in the rest of the country. The normal 4 day weekend is Thursday to Sunday. It's school holidays this week nationwide however on Wednesday there is a sporting event that may suppress the box office. The deciding 3rd rugby league state of origin match is on Wednesday night. In New South Wales and Queensland, together about 55% of the population, this game will have Superbowl like ratings and interest levels. This was game 2:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIOoef7X9jM Edited by DeeCee

I've a bad feeling about it -_- I hope good legs to offset this strange timing.

Too bad India does not matter. For a nation of 1.5 BILLION people Indian movie market is really pitiful. Hong Kong will probably outgross it.

Preposterous comment troll. No movie can spew on $20-25m gross, and BTW you can't think on the long term, you show you're limited, India will be a giant market in the future, such as the USA and China, it's very promising for the Spiderman brand in India.

Don't have any numbers but been keeping a track on the biggest cinema chain here.It seems do be doing ok, don't expect any records but most of the Imax showings have been 75%+ full with the prime time showings (7-10pm) above 90%.The non Imax showing have done a bit less but it should have a solid OW here. The question is with IA4 opening how it will do the coming days/weeks.School is out in some parts so it should help with the weekdays.

As long as it's not like in Germany it's ok :)

In the last 3 years Indian market has almost doubled, Hollywood movies are becoming much more mainstream there and are competing more and more with the local films. I think movies gross less there due to the weak currency and not due to lack of audience.

I'm merely stating facts abut India. It's a poor, underdeveloped third-world country. The biggest films make around $10M in India, and contrary to what you're saying it's prospects for growth are very poor. India has no middle class.

It's hardly the lack of audience. There's like 3b tickets sold in India every year, it's just that they're much cheaper than in other countries and the vast majority are sold for local films (somewhere around 90%).
